I had them as play offs again this year. Really young squad, finished 6th - thought they’d kick on. Sounds like Beale could well be on his way in the morning, all gone a bit tits up.

If he does, poetic justice for Mowbray that the result against his new side has seen off his successor.

I think a really good striker transforms that team. So short up top it’s unreal.

Whenever they're in a league outside the EPL most commentators and analysists will always view them as one of the promotion favorites at start of a season but maybe need to ask why.

Years back the selection may have been justified but they're just not nowhere near as strong as once before or indeed as good or impressive as some would believe. Could well have become the North-East's third team now behind Middlesbrough in terms of real time expectation.

Didn't they suffer some big score setback to Newcastle just recent in a Cup contest. Kind of tells a story.

Terrible appointment, especially after sacking Mowbray- Ian Beale couldn’t have done much worse.

They have a good system, finding young talent and developing them, Clarke, Ballard, Neil, and probably others will be sold for decent money. They so seem to have bought a few duds this season, and insist on playing Jobe Bellingham as a striker.

Their main issue is that they aren't very clinical. For all that we bemoan our inability to take chances, we're over performing our xG this season whereas Sunderland are way down on theirs. Thing is, if you swap one of their forwards for a traditional 9, would they still be able to find the space between the lines that makes them so dangerous? They might take more of their chances but would they create as many? Part of what makes them effective as an attacking force is the overloads they create by having forwards who move flexibly and interchangeably. They might be doomed to be a pretty but ineffective side. Beale increasingly looks a fraud though.

If they sell Jack Clarke this summer they will have money to spend.

A figure of £25m has been mentioned. Apparently he isn’t interested in signing a new deal.

Hope it gives him a boost with whatever he’s going through now. I’m sure he’d never wished anyone the sack but Sunderland really did make a mess of this one.
