Something similar happened here in Florida with an 'iconic' tree around 10 years ago. It was the largest and oldest (maybe in the world?) bald cypress tree in Florida named 'the senator'. Estimated to be thousands of years old and around 150ft tall, a couple decided to smoke drugs inside the hollowed out bottom and it caught fire and burnt to a stump. They were caught and jailed for a couple of years or so! | | | |
