Does anybody remember hearing this song at Portman Road in the 70s? I don't know if it was on record or just something the crowd sang, but I remember thinking it was very funny when I was a kid.
(If you want to hear it sung in a Suffolk accent, google Harbour Lights Trio, Never Seen a Farmer)

I don't remember that but I remember the chant from that time.
"I can't read and I can't write, but I can drive a tractor"
A couple of fan forums suggest it was aimed at us, but I am sure we sang it too in a self-mocking way.
The following suggests that as an insult to people from Suffolk the phrase wasn't confined to football.

My recollection is that this was a Swindon song:
'I can't read and I can't write but I can drive a tractor drive it left and drive it right, it doesn't really matter I come down from Swindon Town and I can drive a tractor'
