Just bought my son his first ITFC ticket 10:05 - Mar 13 with 693 viewsCotty

A proud moment! He's been asking to go ever since the World Cup when he watched/slept through all of the England games (he's only just turned 6). Can't wait to take him to see Portman road for the first time. Here's hoping we're still in the mix by the Charlton game!

I took my son to his first match v Sheffield Wednesday. He thoroughly enjoyed himself, although I had to admit that when we went 2-0 down, I glanced at him and made a mental "note to self" not to take the Jonah again!

Anyhoo, prior to the match, I posted a plea for suggestions to make the event as memorable as possible for him. I received some really helpful replies (for which I am very grateful) -

I'm bringing my son (11) to his first ITFC game on Saturday (together with his grandparents). I think I'm looking forward to it more than he is!

I posted a request for help with accommodation a couple of weeks ago and many thanks again to all who responded - it was greatly appreciated. Because I am useless in getting my arse in gear, our preferred choices (in town) were either full or priced out of my range, so we're booked into one of the Premier Inns on the A14, about 5 miles from the ground.

Anyhow, someone helpfully suggested the fanzone before the game, which I like the idea of (our seats are in Magnus as well). What sort of time would be good to get there? Also, linked to this - parking (and no Gatwick please!) Thinking of the Portman Road car park if (and it's a big if) we can get into town early enough. What time does that car park generally fill up when there's a capacity crowd? Any suggestions for a Plan B, particularly if that's full? Both of my parents have some mobility issues, so ideally no more than a 10/15 minutes or so walk to/from the ground. I was considering the park-and-ride at Tesco (we'll be coming in from the A14/A12 roundabout), but there were a couple of negative comments about reliability in my earlier thread and I don't want to risk being stuck without transport after the game.

Talking of which, I'm tasked with feeding a fussy 11 year old and a couple of even fussier septuagenarians in the evening. I was thinking of driving to the Waterfront (I've never been). Are there plenty of pizza/pasta places there? Is it advisable to book? Again, is there plenty of parking there? Any alternative suggestions?

Basically any suggestions to help make this a memorable experience for the boy (aside from 3 points, of course) will be gratefully received.

I would particularly recommend the fanzone and the First Time Fan (his certificate is proudly displayed on his bedroom wall). Hope you and the boy have a great time.

Edited to say the fellow who replied to my email to the club re: the First Time Fan is Seb Norton (seb.norton@itfc.co.uk).
