The top 6 have been unstoppable this year 21:32 - Apr 2 with 605 viewsTootingTown

Unbelievably we have closed in on the playoffs by just 3 points since McKenna has come in.
(16th Dec- IPSWICH 11TH- 28PTS// PLYMOUTH 6TH- 37PTS)

It really does seem like its going to be an 80+ points total needed just to get into the top 6- madness.

The damage was done at the start of the year under PC, but he left us just one point worse off (I appreciate we were on a downward trajectory) but just goes to show how unflappable the top teams in this division have been this season where we've only closed in minimally under the largely positive McKenna regime.

Here's to hoping we can be in and amongst it from the start from next season.

However, with the clubs above all having a game in hand that 3 point gain could be wiped out.

What we have seen is a more polarised league this year, with 8 point gaps between 11th-12th and 18th-19th, meaning it requires a bit more this season to finish in the top 6

Have we swapped goals for defensive improvement ? I cannot believe that the two are unconnected. Which would mean the lack of goals will not be solved by simply signing a couple of strokers - 20 goal man like Piggott ?

The improvements are, in the main, merely things that a club of our size should have had done years back. A testament to the way the club was run under Evans. Something many fans actual denied.

There needs thought about the academy. Today saw one player and one sub from the academy. And this is at L1. What chance of there being any more if we are promoted, where the standard will be higher ? Have we produced a first team keeper since Price/Supple 2005 ? Yes the academy can be a money spinner, but first and foremost it should be producing players capable of playing in L1. It is not.

Whether we are challenging for an automatic place next season can't be known at this stage. But what can be known is that we are steadily moving towards being a club capable of that challenge.
