Is Ashton a control freak? 21:38 - Dec 16 with 3061 viewsCaptMickMills

Has Ashton appointed young head coach so that there is no doubt who is the main man? Did he not want an experienced manager who might challenge him more and have his own ideas on how the whole football side of the club should be run. Also with young head coach Ashton will have more of a free rein re transfers.

To be fair a head coach role does seem to fit in better with the new structure at ITFC.

Ashton's most recent appointment of young head coach at Bristol City was not a success and ended in failure with Nigel Pearson then being recruited.

Obviously I will support Kieran McKenna who is a more intriguing appointment than many iof the other options. Not sure he is that much more experienced than Kieran Dyer but unfortunately Dyer's illness would make him more difficult to appoint anyway.

As people have commented Ramsey and Robson were young when they were appointed so let's hope McKenna is at least partially as successful as they were.

The question is can McKenna inspire players as well as being able to coach well and be good tactically? Will he have the presence and authority needed?

Hopefully under Kieran McKenna we will have a team with an identity and spirit that will be enjoyable to support.

I'd say ManU & J. Mourinho (amongst others) thought so, and were considerably better qualified to answer this question than yourself or any of us.

exactly.
And the others seem to include Rangnick, Solskjaer, Jose, Rodgers, Jol, our very own Magic and probably many more.

No idea but he is certainly very smarmy and clearly not to be trusted given the lack of support given to Cook just 4 months after allowing him to gut the club. McKenna will be needing a knife proof vest if results are bad,

Personally I am areeably surprised - I didnt think Ashton had it in him to make an imaginative appointment - assuming he must be running out of credit with the three cowboys.

McKenna doesnt look or sound like the sort of character who can wring some performances out of a cabal of disillusioned third-rate footballers - who all have long contracts - but he might be able to... it will be interesting for sure.

Two things are kind of worrying.... it's only a couple of weeks since the sports headlines were all about how unuimaginative and unimpressive the coaching sessions were at Man U since McKenna got involved. These have all been carefully airbrushed away and he is now a coaching guru.

The other is the trigger happy cowboys and backstabbing Ashton. McKenna will need the total support of the man who appointed him.... and time. There is little he can do this season - and may face an uphill battle next season as well given the mishmash of players he has inherited. Cook.s fate suggests time is not on the table.

On the contrary, despite the risks that come with any new appointment, this is another example of something Ashton has done right.

In Evans’s infamous interview after MM left he told us that we were going to do things differently. He then hired a lower league young, hungry manager who brought his knuckle dragging assistant with him and ran amok. It was certainly different.

Fast forward and we have hired a young, hungry manager who has coached some of the worlds best players at the highest level and will bring high standards and modern thinking to the club. IMO it fits the Gamechanger vision much more convincingly than the old school Paul Cook approach. It’s different, it’s progressive and it’s refreshing.

Yes, we need to be more prepared to dig in and show some muscle in this league, but equally, we need flexible tactics and the intelligence to change things during a game in order to get a result. From what I can see, McKenna is one of the more likely viable candidates to bring this.

There is no evidence whatsoever to suggest that he’s been hired as a yes man.
