Jesus - "probably until the end of May, maybe even early June"” 12:25 - Mar 29 with 5525 viewsunstableblue

At least 8 more weeks of this!! Can’t quite imagine that.

That is going to really hurt the self employed and those who’ve been laid off temporarily.

Government will have to get renumeration in order very soon.

Terrible for the economy, and people’s mental health. 8 weeks of lock down.

No surprise there, again following the path of China. And when it’s lifted there will be concerns about a second wave - we should see if that’s a correct concern in a couple of weeks if we get accurate figures out of Hubei.

There's a huge human cost to all this, people will be losing jobs and liveliehoods, people in need of medical treatment are not getting it. I wonder at what point we will start to think that the cure is worse than the disease.

I'd have been surprised at much less than that, TBH.

Really think there's a problem with people not having geared themselves up mentally to this situation. It's being treated as some sort of brief holiday. You need to be finding things to do, ways to communicate and socialise online. A change of mindset.

Copy and paste of a late night FB rant... by monytowbray 29 Mar 2020 12:30
But for those who similar to me suffer with MH issues (and those who don’t but are finding this a bit of a new emotional territory) it may help to look at things in a different light. I’m on day 16 of isolation BTW.

Bored of people telling us via their perfect social media portrayal of life to use this time to learn a language, practice yoga or hone their professional skills.

For some of us the regular functioning day is challenging enough without being shut in most the time, with limited social interaction, whilst there is a global pandemic and the entire world as we know it changes.

In fact, I’m sure some of you lucky enough to not suffer from depression and anxiety will unfortunately get an insight to the mindset some of us can spend months on end trapped in.

You’ll feel sad but beat yourself up knowing it could be worse. You’ll feel powerless and overwhelmed but you’ll need to put on a brave face for those around you. Some days you’ll autopilot through the functioning day only to realise you don’t remember much of it because your mind was elsewhere. You may find yourself far too dependent on unhealthy coping mechanisms relating to alcohol, drugs, eating and sleep. You’ll also occasionally be wide awake at 4am having incoherent rants on Facebook too.

In this weird time, if you can motivate yourself to work out, be creative, expand your knowledge or do other “goal driven” stuff, then do it and power to you. But also, don’t beat yourself up if functioning life was too much, so you stayed in bed watching TV all day and ate an entire pack of biscuits for dinner. If anything, right now the latter is actually a perfectly rational response for a change. Embrace it for what it is and remember those putting up hustler LinkedIn posts or balcony picnic Instagram photos are almost certainly hiding the fact they did exactly the same as you are just yesterday.

How I’m coping could be described as thinking of all the days you’ve got up at 6am and couldn’t be arsed to leave your bed. Or the weeks at work where you felt overwhelmed but had to plough on. Or when you were stressed about everyday life worries but had to deal with it. If you’re like me, all you wanted on those days was vanish and hide until it all goes away, but that’s never the sensible or viable option. Think of this as your only ever chance to do exactly that and call it a favour to humanity.

Love and respect to those I know on the frontlines right now. Do your bit for them and help them feel a little stronger too.

Peace.

It’s bloody difficult. The range of thoughts, emotions and general level of processing varies massively from one person to another.

I have to give a webinar to c.200 of my office staff of Tuesday. Some of them are already gibbering wrecks fearing the end of the world, others (probably a majority) think it is a massive holiday. I have got to explain to them that business declining between 20-40% for the medium term is probably not a massive holiday.

It’s going to be joyous.

One of the problems with this situation is its extremely sudden appearance and rapid escalation. Three months ago, almost nobody had heard of Covid-19 (which didn't even have a name then).

The First and Second World Wars were each heralded by a long build-up. Their outbreaks came as a surprise to almost nobody at the time. Even during the Cold War, with its threat of destruction after just four minutes of warning, people knew that was always a possiblility, the idea was always at the back of your mind.

Now, in the space of a few weeks, with little time for preparation, the world has been turned upside-down and social structures closed down.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

When he announced 3 months of wage cover, it was always likely sadly. The ‘budget’/plan is actually there for 6 months.

Also not helped by some industries still operating, such as the construction industry who can’t put the appropriate working conditions in place thus spreading the virus further.

Our inability or incompetence at defining a lockdown and who is really essential will literally kill people.

I don't think so, he doesnt seem to want to take any measures at all. But I think it is entirely reasonable to point out that these measures are not without serious consequences themselves. It's not as if by keeping the country in lockdown and it will be alright. The longer it goes on the more serious those consequences will become.

After a while shut businesses will have to close for good and people will lose their livelyhoods.

Operations and other medical treatments that are currrently being put off have to be offered again at some point, or those who need them will suffer.

The government won't be able to afford furlough payments forever.

Yes, we need to try and break this now, but it is not sustainable and it is reasonable to ask at what will it become unsustainable, after all we will need to plan for that too.

It's a bit like being on tour. I remember getting extended when you've built-up for a huge lash-up and R&R.

Typically it wasn't safe to go outside so were isolated with a bunch of foul smelling people, crap food, no booze, no privacy, and having a quicky shifty with the sticky porn mag was high risk!

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

If there is no vaccine available until next year then the people who got a text from the government telling them they are "most at risk", aren't leaving their houses until next year.

EG, we asked a question about construction sites on Monday which you gave some advice on.

Do you think we are far away from the Government getting a grip of this and saying what they really want to, and telling all construction sites (apart from those involved with medical facilities or food production/distribution) to shut down?

I made the decision on Monday to bring my staff home from a number of sites in the UK. Most clients have been excellent and very understanding.

One though has asked me 3 times now to come back stating that the official advice is to "carry on" unless you can work from home. They are now even getting starting to mention the contract and programme delays.......

Life and business is hard enough at the moment, a bit of clarity on this matter would make a whole world of different, not just to people in my position but to slow down the spread and stop people having to go into work on these sites when it is not "essential".

We were about to start on a site but stopped until the Gov advises otherwise.

Our contractor has furloughed his staff. We feel uncomfortable as this was their main job for the next 8 months and we've stopped their income.

Mrs H and I are hoping construction can begin when it's safe and soonest. Don't like families who rely on this job going short.
