Or 'ex' Prince. A spot of globetrotting to earn a living, but at a potential [up to] £20 million cost to the taxpayer for security. That doesn't sound right. It'd be cheaper to just give them an allowance of a couple of million to stay at home. So much for this independence lark then:

"One added: “The average salary of a protection officer is in excess of £106,000 and, on current standing, Harry and Meghan need at least 12 if not more split over several teams."

"...particularly when they plan to travel for personal or commercial reasons."

It's bizarre and expensive but then again it's not their choice to need protection.

I think this illustrates the insanity of having royalty, which we've actively or even tacitly supported for generations and into the modern day. We've created a situation where people need protection from birth until their dying day but we're OK with that if they play the game we want them to.

They should make a series of skin flicks while they're both young and sexy. Would pay for the protection in no time.

It’s their choice to base themselves in Canada and work around the world, that’s why the bill is so astronomical.

No way we should be paying.

I don't see how they can be responsible for an underlying situation that was effectively signed and sealed at birth. Surely we just take a significant proportion of the cost as our responsibility?

It's on us for having a monarchy in the first place.
We brought it on ourselves.

Can we do swapsies for the nonce-supporting one still holed up here somewhere?

It probably literally is on us, given the first King of the Brotons was Cunobeline who ruled over a strip of land of what is now South Suffolk and North Essex (and then across into Beds/Herts/Bucks).

We agreed to £5m security while they remained in the uk doing royal duties, not £20m as they base in Canada and globe trot for what looks like £100s of million

They should be meeting the cost, as this is clearly not part of the royal family they wanted out of.

The Royals should get real jobs, like King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands who was a pilot before he became King, instead of being the British version of the Kardashians.

Poor 'Ginger Tom' it's bad enough having all those rumours about Mr Hewitt without Mrs Sparkle trying to parade him around like some Hollywood celeb.

Thankfully William does not have to contend with such tittle tattle. Apart from the stuff about King Carlos of Spain, where the resemblance is mere coincidence................... I think

Perhaps he could have a hair transplant so he could look a bit more like Charles - and a pair of sick out joke ears as well. Which might help.
