One of the Coronavirus whistleblowers has died 15:15 - Feb 6 with 1773 views | StokieBlue | He tried to warn other medics in December that there was a new virus along with 7 others but they received a visit from the police and were reprimanded for "rumour-mongering". Look where we are two months later.

I saw some nonsense online today about how this virus is one the Chinese government produced by modifying SARS with HIV. And there’s are doctored images going around supposedly ‘proving’ there have been well over 50,000 deaths so far that have been covered up. The Chinese haven’t handled this well at all and thanks to this person we have a bit more insight, but getting to the bottom of what’s going on is almost impossible with all the nonsense flying about.

That's utterly bonkers, HIV wouldn't be anywhere near a chemical weapons programme, it's virtually benign compared to some stuff. The numbers of infections are clearly far, far higher than the Chinese are saying but the deaths are nowhere near that level. The Chinese have done their best, they are just reactionary rather than proactive. They look to hide rather than solve and when they finally share it's sometimes too late. SB

Aside from the obvious human tragedy, there is the financial one. I have no doubt that any 'cover up' by the Chinese government was addressed towards the latter. As it is domino effects like this that often trigger a deep crisis - given out intergrated the global economy is. Production held up in one place can stop production all down the line (are you listening brexiteers). China has very quickly become a 'plague house', whereby it is sealed off from outside contact. North Korea has already closed off what little contact it has with the outside world. With its very basic healthcare it could devastate the populace and there would be concerns that it might 'mutate' before returning back across the border. However, finger pointing should be for later. Now is the time to recognise that we have a shared problem with others on this planet, and avoid petty nationalism as we seek to deal with it.

Your last line, have you looked at the world in the last ten years or so? I wouldn't hold your breath.

Sadly China's control freakery has given the virus a head start. Will they learn? I hope so but fear not.
| Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me.
Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing.
Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial.
Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid.
Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

How is that nationalism? It's racism pure and simple. One could argue it's racism driven by a lack of scientific education. SB
