Just verbally accepted a job 15:46 - Jan 28 with 1820 viewsRobTheMonk

I've been at my current place for around 14 years. Same role for 10. It's cushy and the holidays are good but the pay is medicore and I've just bought a house with Madge so some more money is needed.

Asked for it in writing so I can hand in my resignation which will be a sad day.

It's a nice 5.5k salary upgrade, free lunches, 38 days holiday, so, so many different progression routes, loads of training provided, yearly salary increase plus other perks.

I sat down shortly after New Year and really tweaked my CV and it's paid dividends.

It's going to be tough to say goodbye to my current work, but it's such a good opportunity.

All I need now is for an Ipswich win tonight! COYB!

Well done Rob.
Remember to smile and make friends at your new place.
Don't burn your bridges at your old job, leave on good terms as this may well be useful in the future.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

I've been really upfront with work and they've been great to be fair. They've been trying to put something together to keep me but it's not quite as good as the one I've just accepted.

It's going to be weird knowing literally everyone at my current workplace (150 staff'ish), to knowing no-one.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

I had 7 jobs in my first 12 years before staying at the last one for 10.
I did computers so once I knew the systems and the development work had dried up I got bored.
I was always sorry to leave but wanted a new challenge ( and more pay).
I made a point of saying how great they were and they made coming to work a pleasure. If I put them down as one of my two references their feedback was excellent and I always got the new job because of it.
The only trap to avoid about the new job is not to talk about how you did things at the previous place and why that was a better way of doing things as that tends to wind people up.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

Does 38 days include bank holidays? That seems a huge amount....

It does but it's still good. Madge's brother in law gets much less.

Good luck in your new monastery. To be honest, I didn't realise it paid that well...

38 days holiday?! Wow! I thought I was doing okay with 28 and incentive to earn a further 10 ... point being I need to earn the other ten. You have it banked!

Congratulations.
