Does anyone know why they actually close it? Other bridges around the country are presumably open, with higher winds. Is it a poor design or something? Surely they could stop lorries from going over but not cars.

I stand to be corrected, but I think it’s since Highways East took over the management of it, it was then decided anything over 50mph means it gets closed. Why they can’t just close it to high-sided vehicles like they do the Severn Bridge among others I don’t know. And lord only knows what would happen if the bridge was ever found to have a serious structural defect and had to be closed for a long period of time.....
