Worst signings in history..... on 05:36 - Jan 13 by Blue_Moses
And yet Keane amd Scholes both said Vernon was brilliant
He was, his ability to pick passes through a crowded midfield was superb. And yet, Ferguson didn't really get as much out of him as he might have done. He couldn't fit him into the Premier League side and his better performances were in Europe.

The Lazio team he came from was immense and revolved around him and Nedved. Had about five argentinians starting most of the time.
As Fergie said to the press who had the temerity to question the signing, he’s a fcking great player, and youse are all fcking idiots.

Plucky little Bournemouth, though.
The "plucky" days are over. They have been awash with money after 5 years in the Prem and broke FFP before that because they have a Russian sugar daddy.

And, of course,
Found this in the comments on the Ali Dia video:
"Back in the year 2000 or thereabouts, I worked in a publishing office. One day, a very bored member of our sales team decided to ring Ipswich Town, and ask for George Burley who was manager at the time, putting on a 'foreign' sounding accent all the while. Unbelievably, the call was put through to Burley. Me and others in the office were all sitting there shoving our fists in our mouths to stop ourselves laughing as he had a fairly lengthy conversation with Burley about the fact he was a 'football agent' and had a great player he might want to look at. Burley was initially totally sucked in by it, but in the end he did get a bit suspicious probably because we were having real trouble stifling our giggles. In the end my mate just put the phone down. You wouldn't think it possible to do, but it definitely is!"

And, of course,
Ali Dia was the one that immediately sprung to my mind. Signed on the basis of a phone call supposedly from George Weah saying he was his cousin, which was bollox. Still managed to get a game coming on as a sub, but was then subbed himself, was released after two weeks.
