I landed a 3-month contract to check a companys resilience to the 2000 bug. It took 1 week to learn there was nothing wrong with their system. It wasn't the easiest money I'd ever earnt as I had to look busy for the remaining 12 weeks. | |

you dont have to buy it,but its true, they celebrated the start of the 20th century in 1901, and no doubt the 19th in 1801 as well, we only changed it no doubt because 2000 sounded like a nice round number. but culturally for decades they are measured 0-9 instead. so the last decade has gone and we are in the 3rd decade of the 21st century...yeah its confusing but just go with it :) | | | |

The first ever year in history lets say is still 0-1 so carry on...0-1, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, 5-6, 6-7, 7-8, 8-9, 9-10 (10 years). Now carry that on for the century and so on. so 10-11, 11-12, 12-13.... What am i missing in your logic (genuine question). | |

There was no year zero. It went from 1 BC to 1 AD. There was no 0 inbetween. It's like a baby being born and being 1 years old on day of birth. On their tenth birthday that would have been alive only 9 years, not a decade. Therefore, technically, if we work in decades, each decade ends on the first year. 11/21/31/41 etc. We don't do it like that for the sake of convenience so the first 'decade' of the AD/CE calendar only had 9 years. | |
