The start we had has done us no favours 10:46 - Dec 30 with 830 viewsCheltenham_Blue

and Chambo has called it in his interview, “The second goal to equalise - celebrate! I’ve said that in there. We’ve wasted opportunities, we’ve just run back to the halfway line as if we’re like Man City playing against [a League Two club]."

For me this is what it all comes down to, we got a great start, were 3 or 4 points clear with games in hand and we stopped respecting the clubs in this league, that's the players, PL with his constant rotation, and postponing of games due to international call ups and the fans too with our expectation that we should be sweeping clubs aside.

This is not an easy league, its blood and thunder and we need to respect the teams in it, not start playing the 'big club' bullshoite. Back to basics, defend and work your openings.

Totally agree. I've said before that holding hands celebration at Gillingham reeked of arrogance that all we had to do was turn up to beat the little clubs. Accrington were first team to have a real go at us and deservedly beat us. All this best squad in the league nonsense has riled the other sides. Ironically it is best squad in league but we shouldn't go spouting it. When do you hear Liverpool goad the other teams? They just get on with it. Our support last few weeks has dropped off badly.

We may have let in 5 yesterday but we are still averaging less than one goal against per match. Equalled by two of the three teams above us in the table.

While we should be defending better it wouldn’t matter if we were scoring for fun at the other end.

Back to basics, to me, means grinding out results. That is the last thing we want to be doing. We need a starting eleven with all 11 singing from the same hymn sheet. We don’t need a captain who wants to slow it down, grind it out, we need an on field leader who wants to press forward.

That isn’t Chambers, nor is it Skuse. Lambert has some tough decisions to make before Wycombe.

He also has a tough decision to make for next Saturday’s Trophy game. With 10 days between league games he needs to pick the same team for Exeter.

Not sure Lambert is positive enough to do it.

We need a couple of hard nosed 6ft plus bruisers up front and in midfield for when things aren’t going our way. Battle hardened League 1 players who know the score and will lift others around them. A Jon Parkin, a Steve Howard or going back in time Billy Whitehurst.

Without that start, we would be where our current form would place us. Over the past 12 games that would be 19th. Our start was exactly what the club needed. What we need now is to get back to it before we drop right out of contention!

Toughest decision he has to make is to stop changing the team and formation. Playing players in their correct position seems a difficult decision for him but also worth the effort. A touch of playing tactics that suit the selected team could be a challenging but potentially worthwhile decision also.
