It’s because the US have punitive damages so to sufficiently ‘punish’ a billionaire financially the pay out has to be very high. That the amount was that much probably swayed the jury into making that decision. If he’d been sued in a UK court (which he could have been) then Unsworth would have received much less but would almost certainly ha be won. |  |
