I'm really struggling to understand the whinging on here 09:30 - Nov 27 with 2684 viewsSamWhiteUK

We're playing the top of the league team, the form team, and they haven't scored past us. We should've won but for an unbelievably disallowed goal. We had 65% possession and limited them to the long ball game.

People are complaining about the formation etc, but it clearly worked.

Playing 5 plus Skuse used to be a red line for supporters as did changing the formation to nullify the opposition at home, as did 0 shots, as did making loads of changes, as did having favourites that always play, as did having no style, ad did.....

People will always moan. There's some supporters on here that think we have a right to be turning Wycombe over 4 nil. We're 4 points clear of 3rd with a game in hand, and it could've been a lot more had it not been for some dodgy refereeing. We're in a good spot, we do need to create a little more though, I don't know why Judge or Dozzell wasn't given 30 minutes yesterday.

Lets face it though, Wycombe were pretty rubbish.

How they are up the top is a total mystery.

It didn't work, we failed to win and we were pretty awful second half. We didn't need three CBs to mark one striker. Wycombe are crap, let's not make out we were plying a League 1 version of Barca.

Wycombe may not be Barca, but being nine points ahead of 3rd place gives some indication of their effectiveness compared with the rest of the division.

They've managed to grind results out, so credit to them for that. They aren't a good side though and we shouldn't be happy at drawing against them at home.

What is the practical difference between being "effective" and being "good"?

Wycombe specialise in not losing and they managed it again last night. That doesn't make them any easier to beat, so I don't see it was a vast disgrace not to have done so.

A vast disgrace? No. Disappointing though. I don't think Wycombe are particularly good and I expect the wheels will come off for them, the best player is a 37 year old who weighs 16 stone and is the definition of a journeyman. I think it's a game we ought to be winning given the resources at our disposal and our aspirations for the season. I'm not going to lose sleep over us not winning but I don't buy that we shouldn't be disappointed with the result.

I think it's because a lot of fans think because we are a 'big club' it would be easy and all we have to do is knock the ball around and win every game 5 or 6 nil it was never going to be like that.
If we had smashed a few teams 5 or 6 nil and still be in the positions (2nd) / points as now would fans be happier?

I'm not sure there's a lot of evidence the wheels are in any way wobbly. Wycombe have been very consistent. I think it's overstating our effectiveness to say we ought to be winning, given everybody's form and a couple of key absences.

On the other hand, I'm disappointed every time we don't win!

They look like a poor side that is overachieving to me. I'd be surprised if they stay the course and go up. Look at the players at their disposal compared to the players we have, we really ought to be winning these games.

Yes, when we were languishing in mid table, with seemingly no desire to try and move up it.

Got it so as an average team in a hard league it was wrong to take a pragmatic approach but as the strong team in a poor league we should worry about the opposition. Thanks so much for explaining because there is no way ineould have been able to see your logic there

We may be strong in this league but we are weaker overall.

We are second in the league with the way we are playing.

Oh, by the way, we took a pragmatic approach against the crap sides in the league as well. "Hard league" doesn't cut it when we had a stronger squad.

Come to think of it I haven't actually any substantial proof that you aren't Mick McCarthy. Have you ever been seen in the same room together?

Well it's a bit desperate you trying to justify us playing three CBs and Skuse last night on the basis that we are weaker in absolute terms than we were under Mick when in relative terms we're now probably the strongest side in our given league as opposed to one of the minnows as we were in the Championship.

I'm not trying to justify it in the sense that I think it's a good way to play all the time. I just don't understand the flouncing when it clearly didn't matter last night, when we deserved to win but for a perfectly good goal being ruled out by a totally incompetent official.

However we play, we are second in the league with games in hand. If we were playing 3 CBs every week and falling down the league, I'd call it out as wrong. As it stands, it really - and I can't stress these next two words enough - DOESN'T MATTER.

If we'd gone two at the back, and Akinfenwa had walked all over them, you and every other b*gger would've found something to moan about then, as well. Probably along the lines of "why aren't we setting up to nullify their main threat"

I'd have been far happier with a back 4. Three centre backs marking one striker was unnecessary. It does matter because we're not doing well enough at home results wise and last night was a game we ought to have won.

And indeed would have, bar the ref's input.

We were evidently good enough for the win. And as PL says, if the goal stands then Wycombe are forced to change their game plan. It's a whole different game then.
