That is very poor from Boris - doesn't state the reason in there but I suspect it's some nonsense just to get out of it.

Overall though I'm not sure how the debates really help in the format they are.

Perhaps they should eliminate the audience questions and let the leaders go at each other for 45 minutes. Might get a few more home truths that way.

Modern politicians don't really "debate" though, do they? Just parrot prepared lines at each other, produce some irrelevant statistics and say how awful their counterpart would be.
