What should our approach be?

- Sign young promising players that can have a chance to prove themselves at a lower level before making the step up to the Championship next season

- Sign reliable League One pros who will help ensure we get across the line

- Splash out on quality Championship Standard players with a view to really pushing on next season

- Or is there something else?

I actually think this is the time to do nothing. Let the squad play this season providing we have no major injuries etc. Then attack the summer window with real intent following promotion

Personally I would be temped to list Judge, Roberts, Donacien, Edwards

Loan out: Dobra, El Miz, Kenlock (contraversial, but the first two could really use more competitive minutes, and Kenlock needs to find himself- I have faith he can come good, but he's simply not developing well with us)

Sign: Wilson for the remainder of the season with an option or maybe take a punt on Tilt? or another promising CB with mind to replace Chambers as he will be retiring in a season or two I'd imagine. Consider looking for a left fullback, possibly a striker (even if scouting for the season ahead)

Loan in: Further cover for the left, I liked that W.Ham U21 player I linked the other day.

Of course, some of this is crazy talk for January, some would be more appropriate for May but it does serve as a broader view of how I see the squad at the moment

Defensive. Resist offers. Get Wilson tied down until at least the end of the season.

We don't need any signings in January, aside from possibly extending Wilson's deal.

Extend Wilsons contract (now would be best for that one)
Sign Luke Garbutt to a 3 year contract

Sign Garbutt permanently

Add a couple of the best players in our league who could be regulars in the champ for us next season.

We would then need 4-5 champ ready players next summer.

We may put a few out on loan. If we are still top and look like going up we will spend nothing.

Do you honestly think it's realistic to expect us to sign our rivals' best players in January?

Really think we need a back up striker. Keane already showing he is unreliable. Depends how close to fitness Sears is, but if we lost one of Norwood or Jackson for a period we could be in trouble.

Yes.

Just a couple, perhaps three, where we most need strengthening.

A lot of players in L1 are on 2 year contract so clubs will accept fees rather than letting them run down their contracts.

We would be able to offer higher wages and a longer term deal.

Every window we should be looking to add 3-4 permanent signing who will make us stronger.

Prices are always inflated in January and the squad doesn't need adding to. I really can't see us signing players for fees from rival clubs in January. I don't think that's a realistic expectation.

Doesn't the SCMP rules give ME an opportunity to invest in a player or two that wouldn't unbalance the FFP figures?

It mainly depends on what interest there is and in which of our players. However, the priority must be to keep together the squad that is doing an excellent job (assuming it still is by then). Any additions/replacements must be building for the future as I would say all the ones in the summer were.

I am sure we are continuing to scout for players like KVY, Norris, Georgiou and Garbutt should we need them.

Wilson would never extend to June. It's longer-term or nothing I would imagine if other clubs are after him.

We aren't playing Football Manager though.

The idea we tell clubs we want to offload players and then collect decent fees for them is a bit far-fetched.

If there is genuine interest in them we could cash in but the interest that was for Judge won't be around in January and selling Dozzell in order to buy a squad player would be mad.

We couldn't sign Toney even if we wanted to. Swapping Norwood or Sears, Dozzell and Downes for him they might possibly listen but we would have to persuade those players to go there too.

I would offload Roberts and and Donacian. Id look at Wilson and Garbutt signed up. And then a solid centre back in the 25-27 year old range. Depending if Sears looks fit enough to contribute possibly another forward but i think we're ok in that department.

Just wondering, is that the same Ivan Toney from Peterborough that Barnsley had a £4m bid rejected for him?

I’d say the policy should be to resist all offers for 2 seasons. Sign Wilson and Garbs.

I would list Judge, Donacien and Dozzell .... hopefully that will tide us over for these 2 seasons at a stretch.

Can we just play some attractive football please?
