Anyone else shocked he still has a job? I watched them against Forest and they were unlucky, but their fans were resigned to the defeat. There was no anger, or even pity, just acceptance that losing is what they do. Reminded me of us last season.

Then he came out and basically said the job has been a disaster and a gamble that hasn't paid off for the owners.

I think his fate just shows how hard it is to predict when it comes to managers. Most Town fans were wholly behind the idea of the likes of Jones or Hurst or Jack Ross for manager seeming to be those on an upward curve rather that the old lags union of MacClaren, Grayson et al.

Agree with this.

All three of those were highly rated at the time, and none have really stepped up.

Ross has done OK to be fair, but Sunderland fans arent overly impressed with him.

Bit of a lottery really.

At least he is showing honesty and respect for the fans and owners unlike a certain individual in a similar position. The game stats against Huddersfield would indicate that Stoke were very unlucky.

I still think he will come good although whether it is with Stoke I don’t know.

It reminds me of us last season too. Interestingly they play Swansea away this weekend, exactly a year after we got our first win of the season. Away at Swansea. I've got a funny feeling that history might repeat itself.

But also that we lose for the first time this season.

Funny you say that, this was the first question he was met with at his press conference today:

"It's a surprise to see you! Are you surprised too?"

I don't know if he always comes across that depressed but his post match was that of a beaten man. He said he was 'just sad' because he had a 'good thing' at Luton with a great squad and set of lads, and that they thought they could replicate that at Stoke but it had been a disaster.

Very honest of him. Why not stay and continue the project at Luton, though?

Strange 'ol game isn't it, talk of Pulis going back there and to be honest it's probably what they need right now to keep them up.....or is that too early to think like that?

I like Jones, but as Luton are also finding out the Championship is a different animal to League One, and we'd probably all agree with that too...

Probably thought Luton could only go so far without new stadium and facilities, which have been talked of forever, but which their violent demise put a stop to.

I've seen a few articles about how it's actually cruel to not pull the trigger. The other day he basically said his goodbyes to everyone and now says he is continuing trying to turn it around and has full backing.

I’ve said it before but I think that Jones, Ross and Hurst (and maybe even the Cowleys) were at their previous clubs in that “perfect storm” of the right players, right owner etc that gave them the opportunity to almost be a one trick pony and those clubs suited their style, just as it does with a player sometimes.
