What are you reading thread? 15:09 - Sep 24 with 6243 viewsRobTheMonk

I know there's a load of book readers here so thought we could have a regularly updated thread where we say what books we're reading. I've personally purchased books on recommendations from this forum before.

Having just finished 'The Drowners' by our own 'KTBlue', which I blitzed in bed on Saturday morning, I've not moved on to:

Easy to read. 6th book in the series. Kind of like the Jack Reacher novels but probably not as polished.

I am currently on TWTD but if I was not I would probably be continuing to read 'Arlott, Swanton And The Soul Of English Cricket' by Stephen Fay and David Kynaston.
A book that I am just over half way through.

my three latest Amazon orders:

Ska'd For Life - Horace Panter

Hillsborough; In Their Own Words - Mike Nicholson

Scarred for Life - decent bits and pieces of 70s flashbacks but could do with a good editor. Reads like someone's thrown some fanzines together without much care or attention.

Have considered Hillsborough - In Their Own Words before, but having read Phil Scraton's book and also The Sun Shines Now, I've covered Hillsborough pretty well.

Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris.
The Angry Island by AA Gill.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

Me too.... RAWK have a Hillsborough section on their forum, and reading some of the first hand accounts on there is a pretty tough read.

I think the likes of us can relate to it as we were regular away terrace frequenters at the time and can remember how football and its stadia was back then.

I can't remember where I read it, but I recall a couple of guys talking about it and how there were four people in the car on the way to the game, and only two in the car on the way home. I just can't imagine getting over that kind of shock and devastation.

currently reading I Claudius. Stupidly readable and incredible how much research must have gone into it. Can vaguely remember the BBC programme in the late 70's early 80's and may have been my first glimpse of a woman's body parts on telly!

Moondust. It's really good, written in the early 2000s it's reflections on the moon landing, and it's place in popular culture, by the nine (then-)surviving astronauts and the author. Well recommended to anyone who remains fascinated by space exploration.

Brilliant book. Dunno if you've read 'em but Burroughs Jr has some good books too, Speed and Kentucky Ham are great.

Last month I finished reading the biography of William S Burroughs: "Literary Outlaw" by Ted Morgan. Hell of a life he had and that was just before he got round to writing his first book.
After that read Chuck Palahniuk's "Lullaby" (good idea worthy of a film but goes silly near the end). Just started "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley.
