Cricket: Trevor Bayliss on his time in charge of England is good 10:00 - Sep 18 with 969 viewsSteve_M

There are clearly questions about some of his decisions with the Test side but this is really good and highly self-reflective.

The bits about keeping a calm environment, taking tension away from the players are particularly interesting. I get the impression that Paul Lambert does that, as did Mick. Other managers less so.

Kind of worried about the line where Strauss picked him as he felt he was very different from Moores. Hope we dont now do the same thing and pick someone very different from Bayliss.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

That reverse normally happens when a team fails though, not the case with England even at Test level. We do perhaps need someone who can help players with consistency.

Apparently it's going to be Collingwood!

one of those decisions being to rely on Paul Farbrace as his only conduit to the county sides & players, Farbrace left his England role after the Caribbean tour to take up a job with Warwickshire, so who has Bayliss been talking to all summer then ? and that puts the quote about picking the "best county" players into context when even as much as last week people were suggesting several county players who should have been picked had better averages etc etc, but not being white ball specialists didnt get a look in.

also alot of his gripes about the county set ups are forced on them by his former employers, most counties dont want games in early april, they dont want to bring in the overseas players, but the ECB scheduling and money situation they are left with forces them into doing it.

Good article, thanks for posting.

A touch of the Claudio Ranieri at Leicester about his stint for me - a man who didn’t need to rock the boat massively but made the players happy. Will always be fondly remembered for effectively turning one of the worst ODI sides around into world champions.
