Garbutt on 12:30 - Sep 11 with 4170 views | GeoffSentence | Yeah, not heard a peep about him since he went off injured against Sunderland. He was supposed to be out for a month. Well, the month is up.

I think Lambert is moving towards a wingback system with three at the back, which Garbutt will be made for. Our team within a couple of weeks will be: ----------------------------------HOLY---------------------------------- -------------CHAMBERS---WOOLFENDEN----NSIALA----------- V-YOUNG--------------SKUSE-------DOWNES---------GARBUTT ---------------------------------JUDGE--------------------------------- -------------------NORWOOD---------JACKSON-------------------

Why do you think this? Lambert has never played this system at Ipswich and 442 is working quite well at the moment.

I'm really not convinced he is going to do that. 4-4-2 keeps us nice and secure at the back, 50% clean sheets and only Peterborough putting more than one past us, in the League.

Absolutely, to expose our defence to anything more than what it is now when let's be frank is our weakest area would be madness at this stage - we've got it balanced but are still prone to cock ups at the back and we have to mitigate that.

I really hope not. 3 at the back is not for us.

How mad that this is essentially our 2nd string: Norris Donacien Wilson Nsiala Kenlock Rowe Dozzell Huws Edwards Keane Sears Subs: Wright, El Mizouni, Dobra, Bishop, Roberts, Georgiou, Ndaba. Leaving a 1st XI of Holy, KVY, Chambers, Woofenden, Garbutt, Skuse, Downes, Judge, Nolan, Jackson, Norwood with a midfield diamond. Nydam & Lankester long term absentees not even getting a mention. Bonkers.

You think a first round game in the Leasing.com Trophy will set our tactical tone in the most important season in our recent history, one in which so far we have topped the league while playing a different formation? Well done on catching me out though, you must be very proud. [Post edited 11 Sep 2019 14:48]

Calm down mate. No need to be a bell about it.

Why are people STILL obsessed with playing 5-3-2 when we patently don't have the personnel for it?

Played that shape for the U23s the other night also. I was talking about it at that game - it does solve the problem of getting Judge in the ten (or another central midfielder in), two up top, KVY and Garbutt/Tony G look more suited to that role and we will have three competent centre backs fit soon. I just don’t think it’s our best use of resources though, so I hope there is nothing in it.

Crikey Chico I didn't have you down as the sensitive type. I will bear that in mind in future.

Don't you remember when he had a meltdown because someone addressed him as 'mate'?

Garbutt on 20:35 - Sep 11 with 2806 views | LegendofthePhoenix | What a lovely problem for Lambert to have. So difficult to pick a starting lineup as there are so many players who you just don't want to leave out. But an 11 he has to pick, and (assuming Garbutt is not yet match fit) I would go for: Holy KVY Chambers Woolf Kenlock Edwards Skuse Downes Georgiou Jackson Norwood subs: Norris Nsiala Keane Nolan Huws Judge Roberts

In the last two fixtures - Tottenham and Nottingham Forest - we've used a 3-5-2. Against Tottenham we saw him experiment with Kenlock at CB, and against Forest, Nsiala was played on the left of a back three. Add to that the Judge dilemma - he's clearly better suited to playing through the middle, plus the fact that Garbutt is very attacking. I really wouldn't be surprised to see us move towards the 3-5-2.

Trouble is, other than Woolfenden, I don't think any of our other centre backs suit playing in a 3.

If we are winning with 4-4-2, why change? What's this obsession with trying to cram all our best players in?

To be fair, my daughter's latest fella addressed me as "mate" on first meeting. So far as I am concerned he was a dud from that moment onwards.

Results/league standing suggest otherwise for the moment.
