Discovered them very late (as in about 10 years ago). Absolutely love Gilmour's stuff (Comf Numb, Shine on Crazy Diamond, etc). As I came late, I don't really have a view of the whole Gilmour/Walters debate that seems to consume fans from the day.
Talked into it in a 20 second phone call by his business partner as 'an investment'. Clearly I am not the only one who thinks there is big money to be made from inexplicable losses at small town football clubs in an unregulated 'industry'.
Any fans of Pink FLoyd out there? on 10:11 - Aug 30 by Swansea_Blue

Just enjoy the music. I'm from the era when Gilmour replacing Barrett was held to be a sell-out and the end of the band! I love most of their stuff, from the very earliest to almost the very last.

I like the first album and Syd Barrett's solo stuff.
Piper is a magnificent album, most of it is anyway.
I enjoy most of their stuff but everything after The Wall is desperately bad.
Piper, Animals, Meddle, Dark Side and Wish You Were Here are their five essential records. I also have a liking for Obscured by Clouds and the first two songs on More. Cirrus Minor is brilliant.
Dark Side of the Moon was one of the first albums I ever bought. It’s still a favourite to this day and has one of the best ever album covers. Always liked Pink Floyd.

Pretty much agree with all that. Things were starting to unravel during the recording of and certainly the performing of The Wall, and The Final Cut was just a collection of yet more self indulgent Waters recollections. Animals is a much underrated album, often forgotten alongside the masterpieces that were Dark Side of The Moon and Wish You Were Here.

Ummagumma was an odd album. Three of the sides, (was a double album) were band members doing their own stuff and the 4th side was, sort of, normal.

Not quite, the first disc (so two sides) was live before a second disc with each side given to two band members to 'do their own thing'. Waters' song 'Granchetser Meadows' is a wistful piece that I think was a favourite Floyd track of a friend of mine at the time. Wright's piano showcase likeable enough and Gilmour's 'The Narrow Way' an indicator of directions he would explore in later solo work but I will grant you that Mason's contribution could be seen as a 'For Drummers only' outing.
