From the main story on the Beeb news website:

"Responding to Mr Corbyn's newspaper article, Conservative Party Chairman James Cleverly said: "The alternative to delivering Brexit is Jeremy Corbyn in Downing Street, a man who would wreck the economy, break up our Union, is soft on crime and won't stand up for Britain.

"All Corbyn offers is chaos, delay and uncertainty.""

Said with no hint of irony from someone who is part of a government pursuing a no deal Brexit that will wreck the economy, break up the Union, and leave the UK vulnerable to being picked apart by the US. A government whose own MPs are seriously considering supporting a vote of no confidence against it (chaos anyone?) and advocating a no deal Brexit that will lead to months and years of uncertainty.

They really are utterly shameless, just spewing out propaganda and nothing more. All they have as a fig leaf to cover their own ineptitude and moral bankruptcy is blustering at others as a distraction. There is zero substance to anything this government says or does.

Boris is again trying to claim that whether we get a deal or not is down to the EU when it is absolutely clear to anyone with half a brain that if we want a deal that doesn't include the backstop the onus is on us to offer a wkable alternative. So far we've offered absolutely nothing. We're asking the EU to give us a deal and when they ask what we want our response seems to be that we don't know. We haven't known since the day after the referendum and therein lies the crux of the issue, we're trying to deliver something that three years down the line still hasn't been clearly defined.

And another thing. This doublethink from the Tories that no deal won't be all that bad and will offer great opportunities alongside no deal being something that will be the fault of the EU/remainers is quite staggering when you think about it. It's sole purpose is to keep open the possibility of taking all the credit if a miracle happens and we do well post-no deal or to entirely shift the blame when the inevitable happens and it all goes wrong. It's all incredibly Orwellian.

I reckon there'll be a big fire at the Houses of Parliament some time within the next month. It could be an accident (the wiring is in an incredibly bad state), but it will be alarmingly convenient. If Johnson uses it as an excuse to prorogue while a temporary venue is found, there will be a storm, with rebel MPs possibly setting up their own alternative (the choir of Westminster Abbey would be ideal - that is, after all, how the HoC originally got its layout). There will be protests and counter protests.

What happens next depends on whether Johnson's government tries to forcibly disperse the rebel MPs and how the forces of law and order react to that.

That kind of escalation might seem unlikely, but it doesn't take much to tip even seemingly stable countries over the edge at times of high tension.

As you say, the government is utterly shameless.

But it's that with a hefty dose of delusion. They know they're playing fast and loose with the truth but they don't know how much or even why.

That scenario really doesn't seem that improbable, which just shows how far the country has sunk.

Johnson himself possibly believes that with enough positivity and chutzpah the country can get through any problems this situation throws up. After all, it's how he has conducted most of his career to date.

It's incredible really how far you can get by appearing optimistic whilst frequently spewing out deceitful, divisive, and often quite nasty rhetoric. Nobody cares what you actually do anymore, it's all about saying things that resonate even when patently false.

Have a word with yourself. Disagreeing with the government is one thing but (seemingly) seriously suggesting they might burn down Parliament is just the sort of absolutely mental alarmist nonsense that stops people listening to any serious concerns.

Given Johnson is seemingly prepared to stop at nothing to force an October 31st exit through, why do you think he'd be shy of exploiting a convenient event?

I doubt Johnson himself would sanction burning Parliament, but there have been numerous recent warnings it may happen entirely by accident, given the general extremely poor state of repair, plus there are genuine fanatics about (the kind who rant at you about "treason" when any kind of moderation in dealing with the EU is suggested).

The funniest thing is that they are relying on the fact that the US will 'do a deal with us'.

Once we leave with a no deal, Boris will have his pants round his ankle, and Trump will have Boris' balls in a vice.

Does Boris serious think that Trump wont squeeze that vice as tight as he can?!

We have seen over the last 3 years that we cant negotiate the deals that we promise to deliver!!

Enter into a deal with a belligerent, ignorant egoist who changes his mind more often than his socks? Great idea.

Sweepstakes on the end of the NHS, anyone? I'll give it five more years.

Scary stuff.

On the plus side, Trump only has a maximum of just over 5 years left in office.

Time for my 5th repost of this:

The Uk is all a bit rubbish at the moment isn't it? by caught-in-limbo 18 Jun 2017 9:48
"Chaos.

Chaos will be the word of the year.

Chaos will be rammed down out throats by our politicians and media.

There'll be terrorists causing chaos on our streets.

Chaos caused by civil unrest.

Chaos over Brexit.

Chaos in our parliament.

Chaos everywhere.

And while chaos engulfs us, there's a very real possibility that we'll end up with a government of national unity to prevent a "Coalition of Chaos".

All brought to us courtesy of our strong and stable government."

EDIT:

Herbivore, this post is just adding to your interesting OP. It's a trend I've identified for a while. In downvoting it, either a) contrary to the content of your post you believe the BBC to be balanced and fair in their reporting of Boris Johnson and dislike my pointing out the contrary, b) you don't think there's an intentional plan to promote chaos, c) you don't like the fact that I'm 2.5 years ahead of you, or d) you just don't like me.

I don't mind which (singular or multiple) of these it is, but would be interested to know.
