Probably not, given the massively devalued pound.

Sadly an all-too-common modus operandi in the UK - care homes, Debenhams and more recently Network Rail (forced by the government to sell off their profit-making property portfolio).

If you think of the biggest pub groups in the UK, there isn't a strong brand between them. Most of the best pub operators have less than 100 sites. Greene King, Marstons, EI Group, Stonegate etc, all fairly poor excuses for pubs. GK have Farmhouse Inns which are money making machines, but you could hardly call them a pub.

Network Rails property portfolio was mainly made up of converted railway arches. But you're right, it was income generating.

Not sure what is behind Ei buying Slug and Lettuce, they will be putting their own pubs out of business. Punch seem to have focussed their mind since getting rid of all their pubs to Star, gone back to effectively their Pubmaster book of pubs which was much more manageable

Stonegate bought EIG didnt they, but not sure what the strategy is. EIG have some great sites, but couldnt operate a good pub if they tried. I think Punch are owned by private equity (May Capital) with a property angle though?

They keep a lot of very nice buildings going and serve cheap, semi-decent ale. I'm happy to drink in there, tbh!

We used to do a few bits for Enterprise and they couldn't organise a p up in a brewery, no pun intended Punch are owned by Patron now, but yep private equity - from what I've seen so far they are investing lots in the pubs, but also using dead areas of property to make money - i.e. the Golden Hind in Ipswich which had a huge area of land next to it behind houses which wasn't used and has now built houses on it whilst only losing a bit of pub car park
