Good signing. Saw Colchester a few times last season and he’ll certainly take his chance at getting further forward from full back. Clever as he can play either side at full back and even wing back.

I just wonder if 5 at the back is something Lambert would consider... certainly got the tools to go ahead and play 5 at the back with two specialist wing backs, whilst getting Judge in the team in his number 10 role and getting 2 strikers on the pitch, in the future.

Something like:
Holy
KVY - Woolf - Chambers - Nsiala? - Garbutt
Skuse - Downes
Judge
Norwood - Jackson

Certainly an option the example above, another way of playing.

Poll: If selling Jackson meant getting in a wide man, would you be happy with Garbutt?

How many sides do this these days?

It relies on wing backs who can genuinely get up and down, and who can play as virtual midfielders. It relies on at least one and ideally two centre backs being genuine ball players.

Which of those do we have?

If any professional footballer can’t pass the ball 20 yards , left, right or into a central midfielder then as far as I’m concerned they shouldn’t be playing.
I thought that’s what Mr Lambert and his coaching staff are at Playford Rd for.
What is the point of small sided games over 60m if you’re just going to lump the ball forward to some meathead to chase it down the channels

Only seen bits and pieces but potentially I think he can help give that side of the pitch an energy it hasn't had in years.

I dont understand the point you are trying to make.

Hold your horses, he's not signed yet. That aside, we have flirted with a wing back system on many occasions over the years, and each time it has failed us miserably. You'd have to go back to the promotion side of 2000 for the last time we made it work.

I'm going to be honest, I never really expected our wing back system to work with Knudsen and Spence at wing back as it pretty much turned into a flat back five as neither were proper attacking full backs suited to the system. (And I was never convinced that Knudsen was a full back either, looked much more comfortable at centre-half)

I survived Ipswich 0-0 Burton

Got to say 3 at the back with 2 wing backs when you’ve got someone as slow as Chambers is possibly a good way to play. Idon’t see many teams in this division running in behind us and Garbutts delivery from 30 yards out could be great for Norwood.

It gets our best players on to the pitch at the same time in positions they want to play in, whilst having enough defensive assurance and 2 strikers up top.

Chambers can lead and play as the sweeper whilst having two athletic CB's either side of him to clear up in the channels/wide areas. I think Woolfenden would be comfortable in wide areas with/without the ball, but I'm not sure if Nsiala would. Would Kenlock perhaps be comfortable in a back 3 as LCB?

A DM in Skuse, a box-to-box midfielder in Downes, and an attacking midfielder in Judge gives balance and players in their best positions in midfield.

It's an option, but we would have two specialist wing backs who have energy to get up and down which is where the system really clicks.
