Boris accusing MPs of collaborating with Europe 20:05 - Aug 14 with 9125 viewsreusersfreekicks

What an odious man our PM is. The EU has said the same thing all along so this is rubbish. He is trying to position himself and his fellow no deal enthusiasts as put upon victims. Blatant twisting of the truth. Appalling PM and a poor human being.

From a negotiation point of view, he’s dead man walking. He voted for May’s agreement and indeed against it. Also, if he’s serious about a hard Brexit, why not just leave now? Why wait? His bluff is about to be called.

The unionists seem to be overly influential. That’s a bad thing. Like Sinn Fein, economy is not their strong point and when numbers go beyond 10, it’s off with the shoes and socks.

Bad call by the UK to gamble on a hard Brexit hurting Ireland to trigger a new deal. Moody’s report today says Ireland are fairly ready. We’ll hurt, but not as bad as the UK. Good of Nancy Pelosi to back us as well today. Moody’s make out we could see extra foreign investment if there’s a hard Brexit.

Well said. Just got home to Amsterdam tonight after a road trip to see Ipswich play vs Sunderland and Luton. Reading the Dutch newspaper tonight, it is clear that no one over here in Europe even remotely falls for Johnson's nonsense. People are sad about what he says though... calling the EU collaborators is deeply insulting and insensitive

Can he leave at any point before the 31st? Either way you are right that his days must be numbered.

Moody's weren't quite as bullish as you are making out and lets not forget that Moody's haven't always had the best judgements so I wouldn't base everything on their analysis.

A hard Brexit is obviously going to hit Ireland and the UK hard, hopefully it won't happen.

Nancy Pelosi has basically put the kibosh on Bolton’s statement about the fantastic fast track UK/USA trade deal.

She certainly did. Bolton is a clown.

Imagine trying to deal with Trump and then try and sell it to the people of Britain as being in their best interests? Trump will vulture this if it happens.

Interesting choice of words by Johnson. 'Collaboration' as a perjorative is used in terms of cooperation with an enemy - often in time of war or occupation - not for dealing with allies and important trading partners. Most famously referring to those in France who worked with the Nazi occupation during the Second World War.

Johnson's use of language is appalling., almost as bad as Trump’s , just disguised by using convoluted words and phrases.

Indeed. Very relevant in Holland as well. Even in Norway, Quisling was executed for collaboration during his time as PM. Bad choice of words.

Deliberate? As his command of written English is supposedly very good? - and so it should be of course, with his education (personally I wouldn't know, as I can't bring myself to read him - seeing & hearing him on radio & TV is nauseating enough as it is!).

I'd have thought it was deliberate given lots of other MPs using similar wartime language.

He is an election path already. Carefully chosen words to echo the rhetoric of hardcore Brexiteers who see this as a war against Europe.

“War against Europe” that’s just nonsense.

Anyway, we are leaving the EU not Europe.

Then hard core Brexiteers should stop with the wartime rhetoric. Hammond is not a collaborator, Bercow, the judges who judged in favour of Gina Miller and Anna Soubry are not traitors. Yet the right media and politicians shout that they are.
Boris said he was going to try to heal the country, instead he and Cummings are ramping up the divide.

It's appalling the way the brexiteer dimwits subvert history, particularly that of the Second World War. The hardships endured in Britain were nothing compared to those suffered in Occupied Europe, both at the hands of the Germans (eg the Dutch Famine of the winter of 1944-45), or sadly the allies (the 15,000+ French civilians killed in the allied bombing of Normandy. The bombing of Caen, which was unknown to still be occupied by civilians has been described by one historian as 'close to a war crime).

And then you get blisteringly stupid people like this

https://www.indy100.com/article/brexiteer-world-war-ii-alan-turing-academic-resp

(Additions to the list of academics, writers and intellectuals who actually fought in either World War would include historian R H Tawney, Denis Healey and Robert Graves. Michael Foot and George Orwell were part of the stay behind resistance Churchill planned).

boris is a con artist who tries to wrap himself in Churchill's cloak (boris has written a dire book about Churchill, which was essentially boris saying 'I am the wartime leader reincarnated'.
