Donacien 16:06 - Aug 11 with 6386 views | Keaneish | At the time everyone raised their eyebrows at PL's comments insisting Donacien was a centre back. Given he was very shaky there opening day against Blackburn and looked more comfortable at RB we all thought there had to be some underlying current as to why PL was squeezing him out. However, watching him over the last few games, PL was bang on. He's a competent RB defensively but going forward he's lost. He doesn't look comfortable in advanced positions, takes an extra touch when he doesn't need to and looks fearful trying to get beyond someone or put the ball in the box. With Vincent-Young being linked, it's a matter of time for Donacien before he becomes a bench warmer at best. Anyone else disagree with that or is it a foregone conclusion?

Donacien on 16:19 - Aug 11 with 5309 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | I think Donacien has been far better than Kenlock. Donacien is a very good one on one defender and he's pretty good in the air which is effective when dealing with cross fields. But you are right that he does seem to drift in to Centre half.

Donacien on 16:22 - Aug 11 with 5278 views | BLUEBEAT | Not a bench-warmer, a CB if Vincent-Young comes in. Watching how Sunderland were set up and then looking out our squad, especially the enriched midfield, I’d say our team is screaming out for 3-5-2 (or 3-5-1-1 when Judge starts).

Donacien on 16:26 - Aug 11 with 5252 views | Wickets | I think both our backs have done ok this season so far, Kenlock gave away several needless free kicks at Burton but thought he was better yesterday but neither give much going forward , i am a little surprised Emmanuel does not get a look in Pl does not seem to rate a player that i thought did well at Rotherham a couple of years ago . Dont know anything about Vincent-Young is he more of a wing back ?

We aren't remotely suited to playing 3-5-2.

well, aside from the two wing-back types we need.... why do you say that? ;-)

Indeed. And the lack of ball playing centre halves too. Aside from that it's a great idea.

Isn't Garbutt a decent LWB? Not that I disagree with your overall point.

Seems more effective as a winger but could probably do a job as a wing back. That would leave Kenlock on the sidelines though and still with nobody on the right. [Post edited 11 Aug 2019 18:13]

You don't believe that could be Wolfenden? He was a class apart yesterday.

That position was nailed on for Webster but never got s chance. Wolfie! Looks like he could be the ball player in a back 3 or 5

Vincent-Young can wingback, Garbutt can wingback.

Vincent-Young isn't an Ipswich player. And we still have the issue of not having centre backs who are mobile and comfortable on the ball. It's not a system we're at all suited to imo.

But if we do sign him it’s a viable option.

He's also a novice and would be the only one of the back three with any real mobility. We can't field a balanced, decent back three. I just don't think it's remotely the system to get the best from the players we have.

Oh I agree, i was just focussing on him in isolation rather than a 3.

It's not, we can't field a back three that'd be comfortable playing that system.
