22 households refuse to leave Whaley Bridge 21:30 - Aug 4 with 4654 viewsm14_blue

Not sure that’s fair on the emergency services is it?

Easy for me to say, and it must be a horrible situation, but they are risking their own lives and those of the people who will be required to try and save them.

I'm not sure how 31 people refusing to leave affect 1500 people not being allowed to go back to rescue their pets.

the clue in is the last sentence.

The Police are worried if they let people back, they wont leave. So they arent allowed back. Fairly straight forward I thought?

Yes, My in Laws live In Chinley (next village to Chapel), we go there quite often as there is a cracking Chinese there.

I also go climbing around there quite a bit.

Buxton just seems to have its own mico-climate. WE can all be warm and sunny and our friends there can be snowed in.

Buxton's very nice. Oddly my dad bumped into Mick McCarthy at breakfast in a hotel there after we played Sheffield Wednesday a few years back.

My mum lived in a pub called the Jolly Carter in Chapel, which was in the process of being converted into flats last time we were there.

Now you've done it, mentioning 'He Who Shall Not Be Named'.

Pronouns: He/Him/His. "Imagine being a heterosexual white male in Britain at this moment. How bad is that. Everything you say is racist, everything you say is homophobic. The Woke community have really f****d this country."
Poll: Selectamod

I understand the words, just not the logic. Unless the 31 that remained are well known burglars, I don't see what influence they would have over 1500 people who have already made a decision to leave once already.

Perhaps you could throw some light on that.

So an extract of your words reads "I understand not logic".

Yup, OK!

Just joshing :)

so 31 people who were already in their houses refuse to leave their houses. Police cant really physically force them out, but they can manage the 31 places, and know where people are.

A lot of the 1500 havent 'made a decision' to leave, they werent allowed back to the village. Some only got escorted to pick up a few belongings, some havent been back at all. Hence the need to locate pets and such like to get them out, often done by professionals and the authorites, not by the individuals.

So if they open the way for the 1500 other people go home, and they those people then decide to stay there, its not a manageable number.

Maybe you thought all 1500 people got a knock on the door to say time to go, and all happily left, then that would make sense, but thats often not the case.

Plus, I believe most of the 31 now refusing to leave had been evacuated originally but had been allowed back in to collect medicines etc.

Which would explain the increased reticence of the police in allowing more people to do the same.

I understand why the police don't want to allow people back for whatever reason, I'm just unsure how the 31 that didn't want to leave originally have any responsibility or blame for what the others decide to do.
