We lead.

Some more proper batting for another 3 or 4 hours will see us in a great position.

Its almost as if only 1 or 2 players are capable of a test mindset and effort...

Moeen's stats as a batsman are fast becoming a horror show, incl "Moeen averaged 12.8 in the last Ashes series against Lyon. He's now been out eight times in 10 innings to the spinner." (Andrew Samson, TMS statistician).

Some are certainly having trouble moving on from the white ball game. Most disappointed in Bairstow.

He’s been very poor with the bat. Let’s hope he performs well with the ball otherwise little point him being in the team. Bairstow equally as poor in tests.

At least one of the openers has managed it. We have done OK. I was fearful our top 3 would not be up to it and our middle order would be exposed to the new ball with nothing of any note already on the board.

We have a lead and the last 3 can bat a bit given the chance. Will Anderson bat (with a runner)?

Is Anderson allowed a runner? I thought that was a rule that the ICC did away with in all forms of international cricket.

Hadn't realised that but it appears to have been the case for some time.

I thought that was the case too, sadly - not sure of the reason/s behind the decision tho?

Lovely 6 from Woaksey there!

I had to check too Nthsuffolkblue, wasn't 100% sure. From Michael Vaughan's tweets Anderson has been bowling in the nets, so fingers crossed he's fit. Ideal conditions for him.

From what I just read, it was because it was being abused and batsmen were using them because they had cramp.

Not sure abusing that rule was very wise as a runner often caused utter confusion. I guess for a non-striker on the last ball of a limited overs innings it wouldn't maybe.

Could see a situation where a batsman stands and deals in 4s and 6s only as his partner would have to too.
