Surely this sort of windfall should be reinvested into the playing squad as its essentially a bonus that won't have been accounted for.

Even £500k could get us one or two good pro's at this level if we used it rightly. It seems extremely short sited to keep using this extra cash to plug the gap. If we fail to go up then the gap will just widen, so this little extra investment could make the difference.

Alternatively, we could spend 500k on a transfer fee, plus a two year contract for a player, say at 5k a week, and then still not go up. The gap widens and is even further apart because of the extra commitment of the wages and the fee spent.

When you are losing £10m+ a year, you don't go and spend extra money.

We will go through this again

We were losing 6 million per year

It was then claimed we are 9 million worse off than that after relegation

That is a hole of 15 million. Let's play safe and call it 10 million

So we had minus 10 million so we had 0 to spend. We then bring in a couple of million so we now have minus 8bmillion so nothing to spend. Another couple found would be minus 6 million so still nothing to spend.......

Also worth noting that our £18m per anum wage bill will have been cut in half due to relegation clauses.

Half is highly unlikely. I did take 5 million off the losses to accommodate this

No. We already have probably the second most expensive squad in the division, which should easily be competing for promotion. We got a great keeper and a great striker on frees.

Spending money does not equate to success.

We were losing 6m a year in the championship. We lost 9M a year from TV revenue when we were relegated so we now lose 15m a year. Take off the wage cuts( a very generous 5m) and we still lose about 10 a year. Pretty straightforward, and probably even higher than that.

It doesn't, but having two senior CB's and a long list of injuries doesn't equate to success either does it?

No, it doesn't. But we would have way too big of a squad when those injuries are over if we go and sign people now. We will have three senior CBs plus two promising kids who can play there. Plus Donacien. Skuse can slot in too. That's 7 players who can play there.

Chambers will be back second game, Nsiala back in a few weeks, signing Wilson today. Sears back in November/December, Edwards/Nolan to come back. We have a massive squad already, and signing someone to play now who will then be 3rd/4th choice does not make any sense.

Was about to post the same thing. We all know it’s not going to happen so pretty pointless discussing it.

May as well have discussions about being taken over by some rich Saudis and signing Mbappe in a few years after we’ve qualified for the Champions League

My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.

Ndaba and Woolfenden have played 30 games between them in tiered football, all lower than the league we are currently in. Skuse isn't a natural CB and already covers a position we are currently thin on the ground on and Donacien covers a position where Emmanuel is our only other cover - not hard to see we need another CB.

As Lambert has previously stated, no one is guaranteed to start. This is a weaker squad than the one that managed 5 wins in 46 games last season, why do you now think we are going to be world beaters with no real investment?

And we'll lose a load more in the seasons to come unless we bounce back so some modest targeted investment isn't a stupid idea.

I listed those four as options, they will all be behind Chambers/Nsiala/Wilson for starting slots, but they are options.

Because we have dropped into a league where around 15 of the teams in it are dross, and could go down. It's a lower level. When Rotherham got hammered in the championship a few seasons ago and won something like 3 games, they went down, kept the same squad and came up as champions, IIRC.

Completely agree that we should be aiming top 6 even with the current squad, but the squad is thin considering we have all the cup competitions as well we can't rely on a bunch of teenagers to be fit for 40/50 games a season.

We do need investment, when Nolan, Edwards, Sears, etc do come back we can't rely on them to be playing 90 minutes twice a week either. There's no point trying to do this on the cheap, a little investment already to help us go up will be a drop in the ocean to the money we will receive back.
