Did you notice last year that things like tubs of Quality Street/boxes of biscuits were on offer in September and then again nearer Christmas? I think they are actually trying to get people to buy things like that earlier, knowing most people will have some sort of unexpected visit or moment of weakness and end up opening them. They then have them on offer again nearer Christmas.
It's all so cynical. So commercialised. All about squeezing that extra £1 of revenue out of the consumer. |  |

Maybe, just maybe, some less cynical gits actually enjoy Winterfest , look forward to it arriving, and are happy when it appears on the horizon. Leave them in peace, free of judgement, to buy their sweets in mid September. Nobody is saying have to do likewise. | |
