Canary Islands in April 11:47 - Jul 15 with 3460 viewsnsblu1

Anyone been to any of the CI in April before? Looking at going next year in the earlier part of the month. Google suggests temp will be early 20s but just interested in people's actual experiences of the climate that time of year.

Cheers en.

Been twice to Tenerife in April, weather was shocking, little or no sun, lots of rain

Yes, La Palma. Think it might even have been in March.

Was very pleasant. Often cloudy, but warm and cloud thin enough for you to still get sunburnt.

Climate can vary a lot locally so dig into that. I was on the west side of a hill that largely stayed dry, but on top of the hill and to the east of it, it rained a hell of a lot.

Been to both Fuerteventura and Lanzarote in April - weather was good for the most part, maybe rain on a couple of days, but didn't rain all day.

Which Island are you going to? I lived in Tenerife for two years back in the early 90's.

Early 20's is about right temperature wise.

Where did you live GB?

We have a house in Costa Del Silencio (since late 80's) - never really fancied living there or staying for more than a few weeks

La Palma is probably the only Canary Island worth visiting,

Not decided on specific one yet, just looking at what is available at the moment.

Seems a mixed bag in terms of experiences.

Madiera is quite a bit further north than the Canaries and has different weather.

The west coast particularly gets soaked. Lovely place though, walking the levadas is excellent.

Gran Canaria (the south part, at least) is lovely all year round.

I guess you haven't been to La Gomera then. I have heard that Hierro is OK for two or three days but not sure on how frequent the ferry is.

I have been to Tenerife many times and you will be unlucky to get much rain in the south of the island, especially if you avoid November & December. Temperature is consistently low 20s with a refreshing breeze; mornings tend to be brighter & it can cloud over in the afternoon, like many islands. Not a huge amount to do, but good for chilling & can be very cheap for eating & drinking.

I've been to Madeira many times & you must have been unlucky to get a terrible week in April, although May through September are the most reliable months. Yes, it is in the Atlantic, but the weather in & around Funchal in the south is generally pretty good.

You should consider Cyprus, mid 20s and no rain

I also know someone who can do you a great deal on a superb holiday home ;-)

Went to Cyprus in April a few years ago. Was wet & cold for ten days. Often go to Plays Bianca on Lanzarote, usually low to mid 20's, dry but can be windy. Very comfortable actually. Would recommend.
