Cricket: England finish on on 337/7 14:22 - Jun 30 with 2851 viewsSteve_M

Is that going to be enough, slowing down in the middle might have cost a much higher score. That said India have been very good at holding the score down despite some sloppiness, Bumrah in particular. Having Jason Roy back really helped too.

Also, not quite sure where it sits within the spirit of the game for Jadeja to be on the pitch as a substitute fielder for most of that innings.

Jadeja being on for so long restricts one of India's better batsman. Plus at the half way stage always tough to tell what a good score is. I'm optimistic though, having plunkett back will help I think.

With regard to the sub fielder, it does impact when the player off the field is allowed to bat. Altho, from what they were saying, it's a back injury which could prevent him from batting in any case.

It doesn’t restrict him apparently, the injury was declared “external” (whatever that means) so he can bat when he likes

A solid start (with a welcome bit of luck at times) laid down a decent foundation. Pity about the middle and some decent bowling at the end. It has been a very good battle so far.

It’ll be a World Cup record if they do it so they’ll deserve it if they do. Think they stood off us a bit early on, we did then slow down but everyone has in the middle overs against India. Did well to take runs off everyone but Bumrah in the last 10, which most have not.

That would have to be an external blow (e.g. being hit by the ball). Not sure Rahul damaging his back trying to stop a boundary should really count as that, as the rules are worded.

Since the last World Cup, India have been set a total of 300+ to chase, 12 times. India have only managed to win on 3 occasions, although Kohli scored two hundreds in those 3 innings! Even if England don't win today, that was a much better batting display, although Morgan is looking very vulnerable to the short ball. Fingers crossed for an England win!

However, we've now got Vince on fielding for Roy (as I half expected), so can't complain too much.

You're right, but I think Roy was hit whilst batting? Could be very convenient of course.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Yes. India still about 50 runs behind where England were at the same stage.

Given Rahul had junjured his back earlier it does seem to be stretching the point, likewise with Roy but if it's consistent then I guess it's fine.

Needed that Kohli wicket, and I would be happier with a few more. Yes, big target and all that and World Cup scores don't seem to be as high as in other matches but it's so important for England to win this.

England bowling really well at the moment, wickets at important moments. 71 from 31 needed now.

Brilliant display! They batted with their brains today, which they didn’t against Sri Lanka and Australia. Fielded well and bowled fantastically in the last 10 overs and squeezed India into submission. That result alone should give them huge confidence in going forwards. They beat NZ, could the Black Caps now be in danger of missing out on the semis?

The Kiwis’ net run rate will probably save them if they do lose to England

You look like you're right Wellsy. Interestingly, the ICC look at the the amount of wins first, then the net run rate, then their head to head result (which Pakistan won) and finally their seeding. It just seems so unlikely that two sides will be level on net run, that steps 3 and 4 seem irrelevant.
