Mid Morning Radio Suggestions 21:41 - Mar 20 with 1976 viewsStNeotsBlue

6Music is normally my radio station of choice during the day but I can't put up with Mary Ann Hobbs anymore. I've avoided her show recently as I find her breathless whispering and overly off piste musical choices irritating. Thought I'd give her another chance today as Radio 1 isn't really doing it for me. But todays main feature was an Inuit throat singer, which strangely isn't my thing.

Any other disenfranchised 6Music listeners suggestions of decent alternatives?

I think her music is great but she is completely insufferable.

Depends on your genres of choice, but I find Absolute Classic Rock quite a good listen.

Of all the changes recently brought in at 6 Music, her getting the post breakfast show slot was by far the worst. She'll be shedding listeners for that slot at a frightening rate. And how Lamacq emerged unscathed I have no idea.

I listen to James Hazell on Suffolk 10-1 when I'm at work. Then Hawksbee and Jacobs on Talksport from 1.

Radio 2 innit.

I'm not quite ready for that level of bland. Although Radio 2 is fantastic 10 till 2 on a Saturday night, Craig Charles 10-12 followed by Ana Matronic's Dance Party.

Arrow as in the Dutch station? I thought it was Kaput.

We started listening to Radio 6 at work about a month back. At first we all enjoyed the variety of music on offer. Then you noticed that they had a selection of songs that they seem to have to play over the course of the week. There was a Chemical Brothers one the other week that was on about 5 times during the working day, Lizzo was another and then there was a trumpet song more recently.

I still like it but when I started to notice the above it took off the inital gloss.

I got a recommendation (possibly from someone on here) for KEXP-FM in Seattle. Other than working out that I could get it on Sonos via my iPhone I didn't listen to it for long enough to be able to recommend it myself but if 6Music is your thing then it sounds like it could be worth a go. And if you're listening in mid morning here you'll be picking up a late night show there.

To help you get an idea of the kind of music they play, they're counting down their listeners favourite songs (600 of 'em) here - https://www.kexp.org/countdowns/kexp-listeners-favorite-songs-of-all-time/?t=155

I mean number 467 is Althea & Donna's Uptown Top Ranking which is a bit low in my book but shows potential.

I was WFH yesterday and the throat singer was the point I sacked it off and ended up on Heart 80s.

Really struggle with her shows. She does play some really good music, but its just a bit TOO eclectic and her breathless whispering is pretty annoying.

You could always listen to reruns of my show which are uploaded onto mixcloud! :)
