Disappointed with Town/Magical Vegas 08:44 - Jan 28 with 4946 views | uefacup81 | Had the following e-mail from the club the other day: I'm not against gambling per-se, but surely this sort of thing is irresponsible and merely encourages people to bet compulsively with the vague excuse that they're doing it for the competition?

Disappointed with Town/Magical Vegas on 08:48 - Jan 28 with 4487 views | ITFC_Forever | There is that to it.... but at the same time, it is the sponsor of the club trying to leverage some value from their agreement with ITFC. A soft drinks company would do it, so would an insurance company, so would a radio station etc.

True, and I'd have less problem with an offer along the lines of "£5 free credit for ITFC fans". But stuff like this which is effectively "the more you bet, the bigger chance you have of winning" is something else entirely. Likewise, I've never heard of anyone addicted to taking out insurance policies...

15 season tickets? You’d think they’d offer something people might actually want...

Rumours are that Jordan Graham's shirt number is to be retired. Signed shirt could be a collector's item in years to come.

It's only a season ticket for the remaining games isn't it? So value would be much less than 600

Disappointed with Town/Magical Vegas on 12:13 - Jan 28 with 3879 views | CrayonKing | Long-time lurker, first-time poster!* If you feel as strongly about this as I do then please do make your feelings known to customerservice@itfc.co.uk. Maybe if they get enough feedback they'll give more consideration to what the club promotes in future. Here's what I wrote, which pretty much sums up my feelings on it: I was really disappointed to receive the attached email offer the weekend. I understand the commercial realities of modern football mean that clubs sometimes have to take sponsorship money from wherever it is available, but for the club to be directly promoting a gambling offer at an online casino from its own email address feels like an ethical line has been crossed. This offer isn’t simply a prize draw or something like that, it is a "the-more-you-gamble the-more-chance-you-have-of-winning" type promotion. These promotions are typically very poor value and are designed to sucker in problem gamblers who think “well just one more tenner….maybe I’ll win a season ticket to make up for what I’ve lost so far.” I think the use of season tickets and signed shirts is particularly problematic as these are the sorts of items which poorer town fans aspire to but may struggle to afford, so offering them the chance to win one in exchange for some gambling may be particularly tempting for those who are most vulnerable to these gambling companies. Please note, I am no prude when it comes to gambling (I even had a Magical Vegas account before the Town sponsorship deal came about) but I have seen first-hand the harm gambling can cause and think it is wrong for a trusted source, and community-minded club, to be promoting such things so directly. I understand this is the club’s first major sponsorship deal with a gambling firm so mistakes may be made, but I hope that this is one of those teething mistakes rather than a sign of things to come. Disappointed with Town/Magical Vegas on 12:16 - Jan 28 with 3861 views | never_lose_the_faith | whats with all the hysteria regarding betting. some people dont do it, some enjoy a little bet and others get addicted, is this the not the same as many things in life. i have a mate who has a serious gambling problem and i agree it is awful to see but is it any difference to my ciggarette addiction, at least his wont kill him. we cant live in a world were we protect everybody, we all have our vices, unless we all want to live under a dictatorship. bring on the lefty down votes im sure, but i think everyoe has to take responsibilty for their own actions and stop blaming other people. i dont blame golden virginia for getting me addicted to smoking, i knew the risks i tried it and bloody loved it, but thats my own fault no on elses.

No hysteria here. In fact I've got plenty of respect for old-school bookmakers. Accurately pricing up an event and keeping your book balanced is a definite skill. Online casinos less-so but that's life... I received the same promotion direct from MV and had no problem with it - I signed up with a gambling site so have no problem receiving gambling offers from them (obviously). My issue is with a community football club cross-promoting it to an audience who wouldn't normally be targeted by such things and may be more vulnerable to their somewhat cynical marketing techniques

Likewise I wouldn't blame Golden Virginia if I took up smoking either, but I'd be pretty annoyed if Town sent an offer out saying "smoke 20 ciggies for a chance to win a season ticket!"

i agree, but i bet it didnt have any impact on the amount of ciggs sold. same with gambling, advertise it, dont advertise it, the serious gamblers will carry on regardless. we dont advertise drugs, infact we do the opposite but does that stop people from doing them. dont forget that the legal age is 18, and that age they know about betting and all know where to find a local bookies anyway. i cant see how you can stop a company doing a promotion. anyway regardless of all that i really dont want to argue with anyone, we all have different beliefs and ideas, and thank god we do. if there is one thing we all have in common here is that we are ipswich till we die and lets not forget that COYB!!!!

Did the terms and conditions state it had to be your first name so they could more easily see who had won if drawn from the majority of participants?

Not sure I’d say the banning of tobacco advertising hasn’t had an effect - prevalence of smoking has continued to drop in recent years, especially among younger people But yes each to their own! [Post edited 28 Jan 2019 14:51]

I'd bet that I'd there was an ad on telly saying something like "take drugs, they are proper good ", that drug taking would rapidly increase. Advertising very evidently works, otherwise is wouldn't be a multi squillion pounds industry. [Post edited 28 Jan 2019 15:19]
