So.... who should I vote for at the next election?? 12:24 - Dec 12 with 14391 views | Currie10 | A lot of people on here seem to fancy they know a lot re politics. Let’s actually listen - who should I vote for next time?? Tories - mess central Labour - weak opposition who love benefits Lib Dem’s - to my mind finished due to coalition UKIP - turns out the Farage party... done Greens - pressure group that grow a small amount each time Oh the options!! Points for justification to that party - not simply slamming opposition....

If you want to change the quality of political parties, you've got to do it by changing the people. And once elected, badger them into doing what we want (irrespective of party allegiance), not give them free rein.

So.... who should I vote for at the next election?? on 12:31 - Dec 12 with 6669 views | itfcjoe | I think a period of Labour governance is probably required to shift the balance between free market capitalism and socialism back towards somewhere in the middle rather than keep pushing it further and further towards the free market. Public services have been destroyed as part of austerity and need some investment

So.... who should I vote for at the next election?? on 12:34 - Dec 12 with 6645 views | uefacup81 | On Labour and benefits: I agree (with what I imagine you believe) that benefits should provide a safety net, and that they should be set at such a level as to encourage those who are claiming them (and can do so) to move into employment as soon as possible. However, I cannot agree with the way the current government is handling benefits, and are driving into poverty those who have a legitimate need for state support. I would much rather see a system which provides support to everyone who needs it, whilst maybe a certain amount abuse the system, as opposed to a system which cannot be abused, but stops legitimate cases from accessing assistance.

Fine if you live in a constituency where there is an effective choice. In Ipswich it was good, now I'm in Central Suffolk and North Ipswich my choice last time was - A Tory MP who seems to be in a sexual assault scandal, who spends no time in the constituency, who works 28 hours a week as a Dr at Guys Hospital, who has never even had one of his team put a leaflet through my door - A Labour kid, 23 years old, who advertised their main selling point as they understand about the housing crisis because they have had to move back in with their parents after university. A sh*t on a stick would likely get elected if it was a Tory, and my constituency has been gerrymandered to pick up 2 big estates in Ipswich which are probably the poorest in Ipswich. they have a lot in common with the residents of Framlingham etc

If enough people voted upon the qualities of the candidate and fewer automatically by party, then change would happen (and those standing would improve). What's really needed is a grass roots campaign to take back control from entitled and complacent political parties. It's been done often enough at local council level.

Corbyn will have 4 years to mellow and evolve. If he does we have a more credible two-party system, if he doesnt then a spanked tory party can get off the naughty step

You describe a nationwide problem My MP lcaims to be middle of the road, his voting record show he is far right. Because he has massive majority- The Lib-Dems only ever put up a paper candidate Labour put up newbies - although at the last GE shhe did remarkably well But effectively we are disenfranchised

I kid you not, I have counted at elections where a certain ex-MP for Ipswich asked the question as to whether the cock and balls drawn on a ballot paper could be counted as a vote as it was placed entirely within the Tory box. So be careful where you place your twig and berries. [Post edited 12 Dec 2018 13:23]

As someone who worked for the NHS for over 10 years, including the finance side of things - while I absolutely LOVE the NHS - people go on about it needs more £££. Perhaps it does - however, it needs to use the ££££ it has a lot more efficiently in the first place..... Story for another day! [Post edited 12 Dec 2018 14:16]
