She earns £69,000 a year, that's how she can afford to save for a house. She's not really making any sacrifices, she just has a very well paid job.

It is an odd article for sure. How to save for a house when you are comfortably within the top 10 per cent of wage earners is a strange concept for a piece.

ahahahahahahaha what an amazing article

How I saved for a house while earning nearly three times the average wage! While having £500 a month to spend on "treats"!!

I thought you earned £40k a year? Sort yourself with a partner earning £30k or thereabouts and you’re quids in. It’s what the baby boomers had to do

The fact that she's a project manager for a construction company makes the ironing even more delicious. That's a whole lot of wonga to be paid for building sod all houses. Maybe if she spoke to her bosses about the current issues with housing stock she wouldn't need to save so much.

I've never clarified what I earn on here because I think gloating about your salary is vile.

What baby boomers had to do vs what we have to do are not comparable.

"£150 a month gym membership"

Ha ha ha ha ha!

I didn't know stupid, gullible people who are susceptible to high-pressure sales tactics and don't do basic research on value for money and cost-effective alternatives before making a serious financial decision were trusted with enough responsibility to earn £69,000 a year.

You could look at in principle and realise that these things are relative or you could moan and blame rich people.

She is buying a 380k house on 69k. What is the average 2 bed house price around your way compared to your salary and what lifestyle sacrifices have you made?

£100 a month for socialising, regular weekends away, £350 monthly food shop.

Here weekly disposable income is the same as what mine is monthly if I don't get stung by any surprise costs.

She takes home £3,800ish a month after tax and she's my age. Fair play to her but the whole article lacks self-awareness.

Her bills aren't a million miles away from mine, but the difference is she gets paid a lot more. That's not a sacrifice, it's called earning a lot of money.

Sadly Corbyn is teaching a generation to spend the whole time moaning about what others have. We are going to be left with a very needy society if it carries on.

Guess what I bought a house and i have saved everything in my life. We aren't that different in age. I am now on house number 3 and looking to either move to number 4 or significantly extend. I have done this by working and growing my salary and saving.

Just to clarify i only have 1 house I mean it is my 3rd one

There's a tory who's been campaigning on housing justice issues and has made far more of a song and dance about it that corbyn could muster Unfortunately, I can't remember his name! He brought out several good ideas a few months back....

Because the borrowing amount isn't the issue. It's the money needed up front to get on the ladder that serves as the major blocking factor for young people to become home owners. Many young people are already paying rents and in secure employment but don't have £15-20k kicking about spare. That's not a small amount of money to save. 71% of the UK earn that or under a year.

This article spins the "WELL SHE'S YOUNG AND MAKING SACRIFICES AND SHE'S DOING IT" angle when the reality is she's not making any sacrifices - she's just paid very VERY well (in the 3% highest earners bracket FYI) and her concept of a "sacrifice" is stuff most normal people will never afford.

Ask lots of questions, don't eat the Bullsh1t.

Why would someone earning under 15k to 20k per year want to try to buy a house worth 300k to 400k on their own?

Surely they would buy a cheaper one. Houses can be bought for under 50k and certainly for under 100k. My 1st house was in red lodge, I didn't want to live there but it was 97k. That is how previous generations did it

But it is percentages so the upfront amount is relative. A 50k house needs 2.5k for a 5% deposit
