What struck me from that (the private notes, which I'd never heard before) was what a wonderful person and psychologist he was - I mean we knew that already obviously, but that it was his qualities as a human being which actually made him such a successful manager - he'd have been brilliant as a manager of anything in any walk of life, because he bothered to understand and care about each individual that he came across.

There seems an honest calm and gentlemanly persona to Southgate, it’s almost like our great man has a hand on his shoulder. Long live Sir Bob’s legacy.

I just love that he still wanted to know how Gascogne played 5 days before he died.

I welled up too. The 11 things on that list was a lovely touch to show from the BBC. I’d never seen that before today.

My brother tried taking the piss that I ‘was crying’ but I tried to explain just what Sir Bobby is to Ipswich. I really wish I was alive to see him manage our great club.

Blimey! IF, we won it, when the Cup does a country wide tour, the best pictures will be the Cup placed on the plinths of the Alf & Bobby statues. It really would have Come Home..

when I first read this had a vision of the cup being held in front of Sir Alf's statue with Sir Bobby looking down from the back of his stand. Then thought we must get the roof cleaned!

Having (although briefly) met the great man, I can assure that he would instantly put you at ease with his manner and words. He came across like your favourite uncle.
I met him outside the old ticket office in the back of the car park. Looked like he was rushing to the ground, but stopped and chatted to me for three or four minutes.
At the time I just froze but he just talked calmly to meand really was a great man

What a lovely story! Never met him, but when I was flat on my back for months with spinal problems in our UEFA Cup winning season, I wrote to him (letter in those days!) saying what a pleasure it was to follow ITFC, and thereby kind of travel in my imagination to all those games. Had an immediate, lovely letter back, personally signed by him.
