Ceuta and Melilla are both Spanish owned enclaves in Northern Morocco.
Has any TWTDers ever visited either of these cities? I would imagine that the Spanish would have major problems in securing their border with Morocco, or, perhaps the problem isn't too bad as the 2 cities aren't on mainland Europe. Anyone on here have much knowledge about this? |  | | |  |

Isn't it interesting that the Spanish think it's absolutely fine to have two enclaves in Morocco that the Moroccans want back but when it comes to Gibraltar it's the worst thing that's ever happened for someone to have an enclave.

I went through Ceuta on my way to Morocco in September 1980, all I have a vague memory of is a crowded money changers place. I suspect that Morocco tolerates the Spanish enclaves these days as a sure fire way of moving migrants through their country and on to Europe. |  |

What's the premise of your question?
I was part of a group that did some work some years back, but since the third fence was built and the Moroccans and Spanish have better (better for who is what is at the heart of the matter IMO) collaborated what were in effect refugee camps in the desert have been disbanded

I was in Ceuta 30-odd years ago. As I remember it, the enclave is on a small peninsula, almost an island but connected to the mainland by a narrow neck. The border was, at that time, stoutly fenced and well guarded though I imagine it wouldn't be difficult to enter Ceuta by boat or even by a competent swimmer. |  |

Pure curiosity. I have a map of Europe in my office and happened to notice the 2 Spanish cities in Morocco, which I had forgotten existed. Reading some of the links posted on here, I do now vaguely remember seeing a few reports on the area around a decade ago. | | | |
