Unfortunately, the report fails to produce any evidence of a direct causal link between the two events.

This has been pubished by a number of outlets. It is surprising that none of the opposition parties have used this to illiustrate where the tories want to take the country.

One of the things I found lahghable when Mr Marr was asking Mr Hammond about driverless cars he ignored the fact that a great part of UK roads are still in the 19th century and not fit for purpose let alone driverless cars.

looks like another taxpayer hand out to foreign industrialists is on the cards

It's obviously been described as a speculative link by the Department of Health. Yet it sounds like the correlation between decreased funding and poorer health outcomes is more broadly established across other countries too. So it wouldn't be a surprise if true. It's not absolute of course, but this report points to it being more likely, rather than less likely, to be true.

Anyone would accept that there is a natural link between spending on health & deaths. However, the absurd headline figure is the problem as it ignores the many other factors.

If you do a study of UK industry and legislation during the 1980's you might find you are nearer than perhaps you thought?

So austerity doesn't exist? Maybe you should tell that to the rising number of homeless and food bank users.

If public spending is at a record amount, with next year forecasted to break it again, how can it be the cause?

Are you looking at actual real terms spend on public services? I suspect not. You need to factor in that we spend vast sums on servicing our (still growing) debt and that inflation means that spending needs to grow each year simply to remain the same. If you think an absolute higher total spend is the be all and end all then you're mistaken.

I'm looking at the actual amount spend (approx 800 billion pounds), a record amount. So there's no way this could be called 'austerity', which means severe cuts.
