10k in 56.27.... 3 mins quicker than the other time I attempted it. 20:33 - Jul 21 with 18624 views | ITFC_Forever | Yes, I know, look at me etc.... But after a major health scare in the family in recent months, it made me realise how important being fit and healthy is and that I was taking it for granted.... being virtually 16 stone and a complete couch potato wasn't really particularly fit or healthy, so I decided to do something about it. Lost a stone and feel fitter, so all good.

I did my first one today in 28:28 so was delighted with that, first time I've ever ran that far in my life that I can remember - hope to do it regularly and try to improve

Remember we were talking about how I never suffer from injuries? I did my hamstring water skiing 2 1/2 weeks ago and have only done a little bit of light running since. When I say running I'm basically limping through the odd 2 miles. The lower part of my thigh is completely black. An absolute bastard as I'd targeted 1000 miles this year and was on target doing 100 miles a month. Good luck with your training mate.

Plenty of time to get yourself ready for it - and it's a great day out. I ran for Cancer Research UK last year and not afraid to admit I had a little tear crossing the finish line - 1 for finishing and the other for who I was running for. |
I ran Brighton last year too! It's such a lovely weekend and really well supported race. I ran for diabetes uk this year but it was a bit too hot for me, it took me 25 minutes longer than the previous year 😱

Same for me. After a serious knee injury I done a lot of spinning as part of the rehab and that was the spur that got me into cycling. Now I regularly do 50 miles (av. speed around 16 mph) without too much bother - not bad for a 50 year old!

Morning Benters Both achievements are equally good was all I meant It's hard to compare times and distances as cycling is not the same as running.

Out of interest, why did you choose cycling over swimming or running or the like? I've not been on a bike for years but I imagine when you get over the early fear of driving in the roads, it's quite peaceful.

I'm 5"10 as well mate My running style/stride is pretty good as i used to get slaughtered when I was with Hornchurch for various parts of it and they effectively whipped me into shape on that part. The problem I have had the last year or so on my 5ks and 10ks is that my opening 2k is too quick. I've been trying really hard to sort my splits out to 5 minutes ish per KM but every time my opening 2k is 4:30 and 4:30. And my last 1k is about the same as well. I'd keep looking as I'm going along but I don't like losing my running rhythm having to get my phone out the pocket to check my app. According to the app today's splits were much better with the first 1000m was 5:03 so I'm chuffed to have paced myself better. The 4th km was a tad slower than the first three but that's ok as the last 700m was effectively run at 1500m speed with a kick at the end. Perhaps that's the key to it, sorting the opening splits out to not go off too fast and settle into a rhythm and it keeps the time down. Think I've sorted my own problem from this rambles reply so I'll 'add reply' anyway. Show you my thinking. Method behind the madness eh? ;)
