[Blog] Ghostbusters

Ipswich finally laid aside the ghost of not winning this season in a real Halloween performance on Saturday afternoon.

It was the first home league victory on a Saturday afternoon since the same opposition were seen off nearly a year before. However, there are plenty of ghosts still haunting this Town side. Whilst the ghostly Robbie Savage found the referee difficult to convince and the non-appearance of Dickov's yellow card for persistent arguing might have been explained by the supernatural, the result owed more to Derby's ineptness and Asmir Begovic's solid display than any brilliance from the home side. The spectres that still need exorcising include the position of supporting the rest of the league and the horrific threat of relegation but this is at least a start.

It was such a shame that Tamas Priskin was unable to exorcise his own evil spirit when one-on-one with Bywater. He is far from the only striker at the club looking to change their spirit of goalscoring form. Delaney did manage to suggest that centre back is a far more comfortable position for him than left-back and the defence were not purely fortunate to earn their second clean sheet of the season. How many people see the potential in Priskin to be a Premiership quality striker? How many will now have changed their minds on Roy Keane as manager? Just as a poor run of form should be no reason for a knee-jerk reaction, neither should we go overboard about one win. However, to find the real answer to these questions and the spectres still haunting Portman Road only time will tell.

Other questions include whether the ghosts of Owen Garvan, Ben Thatcher and others will ever be seen gracing the pitch again. Did I imagine seeing Amir Karic after the final whistle?

I have never put down someone who has put the effort into creating an article on here but sorry my fellow blue that this sadly is a very poor post straight after a victory. We not only needed this but after the past 3 or 4 performances have actually deserved it. It was always going to be either a spanking to someone or a crap game with a bit of luck that gave us those first 3 points. Enough said and again sorry for putting down your post but 1-0 will do me fine today x

Very good and realistic post. The truth hurts but it's the truth all the same - top marks for your blog.

Good blog Nthsuffolkblue - at least we are in contention to climb out of the relegation zone now but I think you are right, sometimes it seems less painful to be down and out than it is to be scrapping on and on and on for another round or two. It is going to be one slog of a season.

UEFA8- Seriously, you need to get a life. Why are you even on this site if your gonna be so negative about the team. Foir gods sake the lads didnt play well but the win is what wwe wanted, and thats what we got. So why cnt you be a supporter for once in your life and back your home team, instead of slagging them off all the time. I can see why you proberbly dont go to the games, your one of these 'supporters' who listen to the game and comment without actually being there. So untill you have something constructive to say, keep your mouth shut! (:

A disappointing post - especially after a win. Asking questions about Thatcher - unbelievable. Whether anti or pro Jim what most will agree on is that Thatcher was a VERY poor buy. Rightly not in any of Roy's squads.

Isn't it interesting that people come on here and moan about Roy's signings, yet very few will actually acknowledge that players like Begovic, Rosenior, Leadbitter and Edwards are actually extremely good signings.

UEFA81 - you are entitled to your opinion, but no doubt would find a negative if we won 5-0!

jas0999 - West Brom beat Watford 5-0 yesterday and Di Matteo was still complaining about his strikers not taking all their chances when interviewed on 'The Football League Show', later Nicky Foster (two goals yesterday but I'm not suggesting we re-sign him) complained about the Brighton central defenders letting the rest of the side down. Pre-season complacency has cost us dear and we need a highly critical, will to win, fire in the belly commitment and reality checks from team, management and supporters otherwise improvement will be too long a comin'

A realistic post. It was great to win, but Roy and the team still have a job to do... With the winless monkey off their backs hopefully it will be the start of a run. The winless run was not the cause for doom and gloom because some of the performances were good and some of the players are very good. On the other hand one win does not get us out of the mire so lets not get carried away.
Contrary to my previous posts the way the results have gone means we can be out of trouble after just a couple more wins... we still need to pick up 6 games to be in the top half of the table, but relative security is just a couple of wins away.
Beating reading could be crucial.

This is a good blog after our first victory ,it shows some of the fans do not think everything is rosy just because we won ! More poor choices for the original line up Trotter playing , Quinn on the left ,Walters up front which led to an awful first half . We create little in the middle of the park , didnt get behind them on either wing all game and have very little pace in the side.
Derby were a very poor injury hit side and deserved a draw ,Watford game aside average performances against Swansea,Plymouth,Barnsley, we havent improved from the start of the season we are just playing the worst sides in the league .
Reading and Sheff Weds remain vital to maybe getting off the bottom of the table ,but we need to improve drastically or try something different

I think some of you misunderstand me. I am delighted that Town have finally got a deserved and long-overdue win. The post points out that there are plenty more ghosts to lay to rest still - a fact however you view it. I am not criticising Jim or Roy and only point out that just as good as a win is, one swallow doesn't make a summer. The points about Thatcher and Garvan are not meant to comment on whether they have any future at PR but more on the fact that they are out in the cold at this moment (just as indeed David Wright was until recently).
