Town will face Colchester United in a pre-season friendly at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Wednesday 23rd July (KO 7.45pm).

A trip to North Essex has become a regular feature of pre-season in recent years with the Blues winning 3-0 against the League One side last year with Luke Chambers, David McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy (pen) on the scoresheet.

Town's first pre-season friendly is, as last year, away against Shelbourne at Tolka Park Dublin on Saturday 12th July (KO 3pm).

Why can't it be at Ipswich for a change, as prices, parking and accessability are always an issue at Colchester.

It's hardly going to be cheaper at Portman Road is it now? Besides our ground staff like to have the whole pre season to get the pitch in good condition and I have to say it held up brilliantly this year so I'd trust their advice.

Ditto....I think we Town fans have had a bit of a raw deal in recent seasons with so few pre-season friendlies being played at PR. Last year was understandable with the new pitch being put down and it has to be said the pitch looked magnificent on Saturday - almost as good as the beginning of the season. Very well done to Ben Connell - should be ITFC employee of the year

NorthSTANDER ITFC. You might like to que for miles getting off the A12 and then paying an extortionate amount to park a long way from the ground. I don't.

Our pitch was in good nick this season because we only used half of it. I said to the groundstaff at half time against Bournemouth why are you bothering watering the pitch because only one team are playing football at it. Is there any truth in the rumours the new kit has wider collars for our midfield so they don't get chaffed watching the ball being turfed 30 feet above their heads on the way to Murphy?

Nice little stadium but parking is a a right pain and a rip off. This will be the only time the place will be near full and the revenue will keep Colchester afloat for another season.

Who's making the trip to Dublin? If Colchester is difficult to get to and from, I suspect me and Noel the Dub will be the only two at Tolka Park wearing blue??

This pre season fixture is always good and it makes sense as they are the nearest football league club to Ipswich. The only home pre season friendlies we would realistically get would be against premier league or foreign opposition. How about a Bobby Robson cup one year including some of the clubs he managed: Ipswich, Newcastle, Barcelona, PSV, Sporting Lisbon? Would be great and raise money.
